BREAKING: Ocean County Chairman Gilmore Expected To Remove Jackson Mayor Riena From County Screening Committee

Ocean County Republican Chairman George Gilmore will be removing Jackson Mayor Mike Reina from his position on the county screening committee, TLS has exclusively learned.

According to sources, the move by Gilmore is a retaliatory one as the recently elected chairman seeks to fill county positions with allies who backed his re-election bid last summer.

The announcement is expected to come as early as tomorrow, TLS has learned.

In a stunning upset, Gilmore beat Ocean County Sheriff Michael Mastronardy for the Chairman position by 13 votes, 333-320.

Gilmore, who previously held the seat from 1996 until 2019, when he was forced to resign following his conviction on tax-related charges, received a pardon from then President Donald Trump in January 2021.

The pardon allowed Gilmore, who remained actively involved in county politics throughout his saga, to begin his political comeback.

Prior to the election for county chair, the Jackson Republican party endorsed Mastronardy.

The screening committee plays a pivotal role in which candidates will eventually get the party’s endorsement and the coveted space on the ballot, or line, as it is referred to.
