Real estate agents make money on transactions -when houses are bought and sold. So why would they want to prevent a sale, even if involves a family going into foreclosure? Counter intuitive as it may seem, if agents help people stay in their homes, they will help stabilize the market, burnish their reputations and make connections that could lead to future clients, said Mary Ann Wissel, executive vice president of the Ocean County Board of Realtors. “You’re building trust in the real estate agent to help you stay in your American Dream,” she said. “In the long run, if someone helps you stay in your home, wouldn’t you turn to them in the future?” The group is holding a session tomorrow for agents and others in the industry to explain how to help people facing foreclosure. Representatives from Chase, the New Jersey Home Mortgage Finance Agency and OceanFirst Bank are expected to speak at the program, which is at 9:30 a.m. in the Mancini Room of the Ocean County Library in Toms River.
