With the holidays upon us this month, teachers have an excellent opportunity to assign some “fun homework” to those students who are eager to learn more about cyber, computers, interacting online with a more purposeful end.
The NSA Day Of Cyber sponsored by the National Security Agency, is an online, interactive cyber career exploration experience, which runs on the Life Journey platform. It enables students to take a seat beside the NSA Cyber Threat Director and test drive a day in the life of six NSA cyber professionals. Users will participate in challenging real-life cyber scenarios, discover the skills and tools used by the NSA cyber professionals, and explore the vast number of careers in cybersecurity.
Have your students construct simple-yet-valuable exercises for your more eager students to do over the holiday break, involving some “internet research” on their favorite Day of Cyber mentor!
For example, have them dig into how a Crypto Analyst uses math, or what other languages a Capabilities Development Specialist uses. Then have these enterprising students present a short paper to the class in January describing their findings.
This will be a great fun extra credit assignment you, as a teacher, could whip up for them!
I’ve previously mentioned countless ways that you could amplify on the Day of Cyber skills, mentor backgrounds, and cyber activities. This holiday break is an excellent opportunity to help your students grow in their cyber awareness and capabilities!
This opportunity is open to any student from K-12, college and technical courses. Many high schools and colleges across the nation have become partners in this exciting program to train their students for the exploding cybersecurity profession.
The initial offering will be presented by me in conjunction with The Parnassah Network so keep your eye out for the announcements here on TLS.
LifeJourney is an online career simulation experience that empowers students and individuals to test-drive future career opportunities relating to STEM. Any interested organizations seeking to participate at no cost please contact me via TLS.
