[TAKE POLL IN EXTENDED ARTICLE] The flip-flop Board Of Education may once again switch the School Board elections, and in case you haven’t been keeping track, this time it’s back to April. The Board – aftera heated February 29 meeting – will be holding an ’emergency meeting’ tomorrow morning to discuss the vote which moved the elections to November. The Board may again vote on the issue.
Is it the right thing to do?
Take the poll below.
Its obvious they will vote again simply because the attorney wasnt happy with the outcome. Time for him to go!
I hope the Scoop will be there to video it. This is a chitzpah. (moderated) told us to vote in these two new guys and now they raise our taxes??!!??
Is there anyone on that board who is actually qualified and concerned with the education of All of the children in Lakewood?
Ms. Silva is up for a renewal on her 3 year contract this summer.
DO NOT MOVE THE ELECTIONS TO NOVEMEBER.
A public debate in April will be most salutory–before she is rehired.
IF Ms. Silva contract is renewed, will that give her tenure. Can we afford another public employee with long term Benefits???
Does anyone need more proof that this BOE is totaly unqualified to run the public schools ~ to someone in the State if you read this WHERE ARE YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!
Quote “Is there anyone on that board who is actually qualified and concerned with the education of All of the children in Lakewood?”
the answer is a resounding NO !!!!!
one needs to vote their conscience not what some one tells them, it is time to think before voting.
public debate in april is most healthy, be there to voice your opinion.
What are the pros and cons to April or Novemeber?
Moving the election to back to April would be a huge mistake for Lakewood. Here is what you must consider, the school board would have members who care about the children’
The position of Superintendent is a non tenured position. She never gets tenure. She always gets benefits though, even now.
Furthermore, according to the law, since she is here for 3 years, she must be notified a minimum 3 months in advance before her contract expires that she willnot be rehired. Her contract ends on June 30th. Three months before that is March 30th. April elections willbe too late for that. Sorry. The attorney wants her to stay so she will stay.
People people people:
There are some members of the board who will do whatever the attorney tells them to do.
The LAC-approved members will NOT listen to the attorney.
Which board members should we vote for? I leave that up to you.
For those who constantly berate “the entire board of ed”, you are making it worse for yourselves. Every year, new members are voted in, and old members are voted out. There is a constant change of membership. What you need to do is see the voting patterns of each board member. No single member has any power, but their votes matter.
When you see the voting records of each BOE member, you will realize that the LAC-approved members are voting for YOUR interests.
WE NEED MORE LAC-APPROVED MEMBERS, so that we will have a majority. THEN you will see real change.
It should be a requirement that board members have or have had children in the public school district. Should be a statewide rule.
Irene Miccio, by her own admission, is being pressured by outsiders to switch her vote. Will she vote her conscience, as she did March 1 to move the elections to november, or will she cave in? Only time will tell.
November or April, just remember those who voted to minimize public participation, and vote them out!
I wish they would care about the children all of our children and do what is best for them. So many tears shedded by parents of special children can be avoided
It’s all over. The voters won. November it is.
This session, if it even takes place, is Monday morning quarterbacking.
we should be vigilante not to vote in anyone associated with the recently voted in members who approved the budget increase. Seitler, fink, and silver have a track record of lowering taxes, lets give them our support.
Most people wouldn’t have a problem paying taxes if there was any accountability and independent oversight which would give us some confidence that the money wasn’t being wasted, etc…

So True ,what is very disturbing is the conduct of the BOE ,absolutely insulting to the young gentleman trying to explain his point of view , I myself would not have tolerated such conduct and would have wated at the mike until I had their attention and would have made it know to them that they were acting very unprofessional
The superintendent does not run the district, the attorney does. This last meeting the attorney went too far. We will see what the state bar has to say when they see the video. It is so obvious he was trying to make her swith her vote especially with his comment there are 8 members here, ” watch this”. If the vote is changed it will only prove to hurt Lakewood and it’s residents.
just remember its John Stillwell, don’t forget to pay me my 45k…………
You hit the nail on the head. Most people don’t mind paying taxes to ensure a quality public education. They do mind promoting the moral hazard of a District that on every State audit has been found to be grossly mismanaged and wasteful.
Lakewood’s school district is run by a BOE that repeatedly seeks not to be accountable to the voters.
Going against the Statewide tide, and against every other District in Ocean County, the desperate attempt to deny Lakewood’s November voters a voice on BOE candidates is just the most recent instance of the BOE’s determined resistance to transparency ad accountability.
Nothing will change until the next election.
In fairness, that moral hazard is the current composition of the 5 to 4 majority on the Board. Once that majority is tipped towards Fink, Seitler, Tift, and Silver – there will be a sea change towards real accountability, transparency and far better performance on all levels. Voter and taxpayer confidence will be restored.
Make it happen. Next BOE elections.
If the voting changes to November you will not be able to vote on the HUGE INCREASE the BOE wants.
The huge increase was because Lakewood voted for the wrong three candidates last year.
If we would only have listened to the LAC and voted for the LAC-backed candidates, we would have a majority, and there wouldn’t be any tax increases.
Vote only for LAC-backed candidates. RE-elect Yoni (Jonathan) Silver, Chezky Zeitler, Carl Fink, and Isaac Zlatkin.
DO NOT VOTE FOR MEMBERS WHO ARE NOT LAC-APPROVED. IF YOU DO, YOU WILL CONTINUE TO BE DEVASTATED BY THE RESULTS.
LET US NOT FORGET!!!”Voting to approve the budget, were Grunhut, Greenspan, Miccio, Friedman and Tift.” Lets see which side of the fence Miccio will be on tomorrow.
When are people going to realize the BOE is elected and the Attorney is appointed, his job is to advise not be the one in control. He is not to be making the decisions that run the schools. He is wearing to many hats.
This video proves everything about the lakewood BOE , it is very disturbing that coercive tactics are used to control wehat takes place in decissions on thing that come to a vote, if you cannot use your own mind to make a judgement on weather to vote for or against something YOU DO NOT BELONG ON THE BOARD !!!!
with all of this flip-flopping i wonder is Mitt Romney on the board?
The board attorney has to much power. This is why our taxes are so high….. If this is deleted it just shows people don’t want to deal with the truth.
The attorney is just that. Most towns have there attorney present to answer legal questions. This attorney is almost a board member. He needs to be removed.
# 24 you are 100% incorrect. If you are on the board you should resign. Are you one of the two who come to eat and vote what your told too.
The law clearly states the board can veto any budget. It also states any budget increase of 2% less with board approval would be approved. One board member probably #24 stated he wanted to leave the budget in April becuase it’s easier to vote the budget down. This person should be immediatly voted off the board, brought up on ethics charges by the administration and resign from the board.
“Please go to http://www.lakewoodunite.org and read all 17 questions posed by Pastor Glenn Wilson to the Lakewood BOE. Then ask yourself why that Board did not answer even a single question. A very conflicted Board.”
