NO NEED FOR ALARM: Emergency Alerts System Being Tested Today

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will conduct a nationwide emergency test alert today at 2:20 PM.

The test, being done in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will affect both EAS systems – TVs and radios – as well as the Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) for people who are opted-in to receiving alerts on their cellphones.

The emergency alert text on cell phones will say, “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.”

A similar message will be seen and heard on TVs and radios.

The test of the emergency alerts system is intended to ensure that the government’s primary way of reaching Americans during a national crisis is working well.
