The New Jersey State Police is activating its Emergency Operations Center in preparation for possible unrest that may ensue in the aftermath of Election Day, the New Jersey Globe is reporting.
“The State Emergency Operations Center will be operational and in continuous communication with our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners and we will have a contingent of troopers conducting high visibility patrols and on standby to deploy where needed,” said Maj. Brian Polite, a spokesman for the NJSP.
In many major cities across the US, including New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, businesses have been preparing for unrest by putting plywood over their storefronts and removing valuables from their stores. In New York City, Mayor Bill de Blasio said the city was prepared “for anything,” but played down the threat of riots actually occurring.
Despite the election taking place today, a majority of analysts don’t expect results to be known tonight, with election officials saying it could potentially take days or even weeks for all ballots to be counted. A delay in election results could play a role in igniting civil unrest, as individuals already prone to rioting are on edge for a quick result in what to many is the most important election of their lifetime.
Translation~ NJSP will be in Lakewood tonight, tomorrow, and through next week en”farcing” traffic laws.
