NJGOP Chairman Steinhardt Slams Whitman Over Biden Endorsement

NJGOP Chairman Doug Steinhardt took former Republican governor of New Jersey Christie Whitman to task for throwing her support behind Joe Biden and speaking at the Democratic National Convention last night.

Whitman, who is a lifelong Republican and served two terms as governor from 1993 to 2001, said at the convention that Joe Biden is the candidate the country needs at this moment.

“This isn’t about a Republican or Democrat,” Whitman said. “It’s about a person, a person decent enough, stable enough, strong enough to get our economy back on track, a person who can work with everyone, Democrats and Republicans, to get things done. Donald Trump isn’t that person. Joe Biden is.”

NJGOP Chairman Doug Steinhardt fired back at Whitman in a statement, saying she isn’t much of a Republican and doesn’t represent the party.

“Politics is about making choices. Tonight, Governor Whitman made the choice to “appear” at the Democratic National Convention, speaking on the same evening as Socialist Bernie Sanders,” Steinhardt said. “I don’t begrudge her that right, after all, this is America. But, no one in America should ever think that Christie Whitman represents the values of the New Jersey Republican Party.

“Governor Whitman can argue that she’s putting country over party, but she endorses a Democratic Party that supports lawlessness, treats the U.S. Constitution as an obstacle, would defund and disband our police departments, makes our communities less safe, and makes our State and Country less affordable.

“After she completes her endorsement of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, she should complete her change of party designation form tomorrow. We’ll gladly donate the postage stamp.”

  1. She is a disgusting person who said President Trump is worse than hitler, that is a vile disgusting sick thing to say and instead of condemning and shunning her, the democrats gave her a speaking spot at their convention.

  2. Do these RINOS actually think Biden would be better for this country? Trumpo has reached out tot he democrats many times to work for the better of our country like any decent person would do as all our politicians should have our countries interest in mind. Unfortunately DC doesn’t represent us and just wants POWER. at all costs. These RINOS dont make sense. A real shame. Pray for the USA

  3. Note: This comment was posted on a different article but it also belongs here for Doug.

Thank you, Doug. Here’s some receipts:

Two days after Whitman’s election, Ed Rollins, Whitman’s
campaign manager, bragged about having spent $500,000 to suppress the black
vote. Whitman said that African-Americans played a game known as “jewels in the
crown”, to rip-off welfare programs which she claimed had as its intent having
as many children as possible out of wedlock. Not good for a Democrat to say.
This will come back to haunt her.

Now, this gets personal, and we all should know as NJ taxpayers. For the moment let’s
forget that I was elected to the Ocean County Committee (R) and keep politics
aside for the moment, as impossible as that is because this affects residents of every stripe.

Whitman started investing the State’s pension funds that
created a long-term deficit legacy that could not be reversed. Subsequent
governors ran into difficulties with the cumulative revenue losses and interest
payments on the debt the state government issued. And guess who makes up the
    difference. NJ taxpayers.

And now this gets REAL PERSONAL as a 9/11 first responder, with my
office at NYPD Manhattan South, just a block away from ground zero, Whitman showed
up twice in New York City after the September 11 attacks to inform New Yorkers
that the toxins released by the attacks posed no threat to their health. EPA’s
Inspector General determined that the assurance was misleading because the EPA
“did not have sufficient data and analyses” to justify it. A 2003
report by the EPA stated it was the Bush White House that had “convinced Whitman’s
EPA to add reassuring statements and delete cautionary ones”. Reassuring
to who? We know the outcome of that “no threat to their health”. The thousands of people who died and still
suffer from that toxic air? More people died from that than the actual terror

In December 2007, legal proceedings began on the
responsibility of government officials in the aftermath of the September 11,
2001 attacks. Whitman was among the defendants. The plaintiffs alleged that
Whitman was at fault for saying that the downtown New York air was safe in the
aftermath of the attacks. The DOJ made the absurd argument that holding the
agency liable would establish a risky legal precedent because such holding
would make public officials “afraid of making public statements”. So I guess I shouldn’t be writing this?

It wasn’t until 2016, Whitman apologized for the first time
for her declaration a week after 9/11 that the air in

The last chapter of her book, “It’s My Party, Too: Taking
Back the Republican Party… And Bringing the Country Together Again” is
entitled “A Time for Radical Moderates”, an oxymoron if ever I heard one.

In 2016 she said that Donald Trump was using fascist tactics
in his campaign and in case of a Trump nomination by the GOP, she would
vote for Hillary Clinton. In 2018, Whitman wrote an op-ed calling Trump unfit
for office and urging other Republicans to pressure him to step down.

As AOC would say: “Did you know that?”. Or Bye Bye Biden, “C’mon man”.

  4. After she left being Governor she went on to be in charge of the EPA. She is the one that said it was safe to breath the air in downtown Manhattan after the 911 attack
