NJ Transit Increases Patrols, Inspections To Keep Bus System Safe From Terrorists

To date, there has not been a credible terror threat involving an NJ Transit bus. “No, we have not seen that,” NJ Transit Police Chief Christopher Trucillo said. “But we have got to be forward-thinking, and we look at what goes on in other parts of the world.”

Terrorists have attacked transit systems in Spain, Great Britain, India, Japan and Russia.

That was the impetus for “BusSafe,” a counterterrorism and criminal deterrence effort NJ Transit rolled out Wednesday as part of a national initiative to increase the police presence on America’s mass transit bus systems.

In addition to bus patrols and bus inspections, the program includes increased inspections at transit terminals, garages and high-volume boarding areas, NJ Transit officials said.

Trains and trolleys are often more romanticized than buses, getting their own songs. Gladys Knight & the Pips crooned about the “Midnight Train to Georgia,” while Judy Garland sang about the trolley that went “clang, clang, clang.”

But there are twice as many bus commuters as train riders on the NJ Transit system — about 600,000 a day. Read more in Star Ledger. View TLS photos and video of joint drill which took place at the Lakewood station last year.

  1. Even though this is a state initiative………

This is just the beginning of the Federal government getting involved in every aspect of daily life. Watch – soon the Federal TSA will be in charge of security at bus and train depots across America. Then they will take over all courts, municipal buildings, bus stops, public libraries, Foos Stamp offices, Social Security offices, parks, etc, until they finally give themselves the right to stop and frisk anyone on the street. Their claim will be that they have jurisdiction, since you are in the “act of traveling”, even by just crossing the street.

When the federal government takes these powers for themselves, we are doomed. There will be no one to complain to. Who will you call, some nameless bureaucrat in Washington, DC????

See, right now, if the local LPD ever goes overboard, we have someone local to complain to. We can demand that our local Township Committee do something about it. And we can vote the Township Committee out in the next election.

But when the federal government takes local policing power for themselves, who will you complain to? Nobody!! Our only chance at that point would be the Supreme Court ruling such power grabs by the federal govt as unconstitutional. But their decision upholding ObamaCare as constitutional has convinced me that they are incapable of limiting the powers of the Federal Government as per the Constitution.

The Federal Government now has free reign to grab more and more power. And just wait – Obama’s second term will be nothing we could have ever dreamed of just a few short years ago.

I suggest you read the new book from Aaron Klein:
“Fool me twice: Obama’s shocking plans for the next four years exposed.”
