Senator Gerry Cardinale (R-Bergen, Passaic) will introduce legislation allowing New Jersey consumers to purchase healthcare plans offered in other states, helping them to avoid penalties imposed by the Affordable Care Act for failing to carry mandated coverage.
“Since the Affordable Care Act was enacted, the cost of health insurance for many New Jerseyans has become unaffordable,” said Cardinale. “Despite skyrocketing premiums and few affordable options remaining in New Jersey, many residents will be forced under the ACA to pay penalties for not purchasing coverage that they cannot afford.”
Cardinale’s legislation, the “Consumer Freedom From Unwanted Expense in Health Insurance Coverage Act,” will ensure that consumers have the right to purchase health insurance policies legally sold in other states.
The bill also stipulates that the purchase of health insurance coverage pursuant to the bill shall satisfy any legal obligation for an individual to maintain health insurance coverage imposed by any entity having the right to require that coverage be maintained.
“The federal government really screwed up the healthcare market with Obamacare, but I’ll do whatever I can to fix it for New Jersey residents,” added Cardinale. “We can start by giving people more options to find and purchase affordable coverage beyond New Jersey’s borders.”

Obamacare is the law of the land and nowhere in the law does it allow for across state lines purchase of insurance. The law has to be repealed.
