A New Jersey Senate committee has approved a bill that would require fast food and restaurant chains to post calories on their menus. The bill advanced Monday by the Senate Health Committee would require restaurants with 20 or more locations to print calorie counts for all food and beverages on menus, menu boards and drive-through window signs. It’s similar to measures enacted in New York City, Philadelphia and several other states. Health advocacy groups say the measure is needed to help consumers make healthier choices.

Opponents contend it’s another case of unnecessary regulation.
