What does “presser on the state level” mean? What kind of ridiculous people would ever ban the American dream of owning a single family home??

I have known many people who were unaffiliated in the past who lived in all areas in NJ and many have told me they rent part of their house to singles or couples. This has nothing to do with realtors etc… This has always been done except only now are officials enforcing it. I used to rent an area in a commercial building which the landlord did many construction projects and rentals and nothing happened. The day a Jewish buyer bought it, is when the officials came down to analyze and cause problems . Very interesting.

Not sure why the hate. Brokers will do anything to sell a property. There were people that bought properties for higher than market based off a tennant. When they attempted to get tennants they found out tge harsh reality. They reached out to the jcc for assistance. This prompted them to put out a notice. This is not political. Let’s give these unpaid dedicated members the respect and dignity they deserve.

Boo!

Let’s stand up for property rights in the face of overzealous Karen’s seeking to exclude people from their neighborhoods.

its been deemed illegal and unconstitutional as it often prevents low income minorities from living in good school districts with low level crime rates. Diversity is our strenghth.

As a non-Jewish person, I appreciate the Orthodox leadership for making sure this important issue is brought to light. As the frum community expands to towns surrounding Lakewood, we hope the Orthodox leadership will continue to promote this there also. No one wants to see more irresponsible overdevelopment and lack of planning that was done like Lakewood’s growth.

Thank you to whoever put this out. Many of us came to Jackson to find affordable houses away from all the traffic and noise. Basement apartments will increase house prices which causes taxes to go up. Which will then cause more people to redo their house hoping to pay for the higher costs with a tenant. The infrastructure wasn’t built to be a city and it’s selfish to do things that slowly erode the quality of life for everyone else. This was one of the core sins of the generation of noah. Everyone did whatever they could get away with, rather than what was better for society.

It’s only a matter of time. The State is already pushing overriding zoning to allow rental accessory units to be built in backyards to alleviate housing shortages….

What about the playgroups being closed down all over Jackson due to zoning laws? Not all of us can afford daycares or don’t qualify for CHS. Most schools don’t have preschool options & traveling into Lakewood is a nightmare (that apparently we are trying to avoid). What are our options realistically? Is there a way to make child care at home legal with more than 5 kids? Of course there should be guidelines like no blocking driveways or mailboxes etc.

Are they being closed because of zoning or because you need a daycare license from the State if you are caring for more than 5 children?

Both.

Neighbors are calling & complaining because they see cars coming & going (& hopefully not blocking any mail boxes or driveways) because they know it’s illegal. Even if it doesn’t affect them at all (as in my child’s group – she lives on a very spacious block).

Legally you can have 5 children being watched in a home without a license but for older children it’s not so conducive financially (because the Morahs charge less than babysitters) or socially. 5 kids are not enough choices for friendship (with babies it’s fine).

With a license it’s STILL 5 kids but now you can charge CHS prices (not realistic for everyone…)

The only way you can have more kids per adult is in a DAYCARE center (not a residential area).

My Morah did her research and is at a loss what to do. Basically her only option is to close down or keep changing locations monthly. Both are very stressful for us parents.

Any normal solutions?

I would hate to live in a place where I am “Controlled” by anyone telling me who to vote for (& I’m surprised by anyone that’s ok with this.)

While i sympathize for those who moved to Jackson thinking there wont be rentals, its to feel bad for somebody sitting on their 1.2 acre property that feel claustrophobic when someone moves in on their neighbor. So many people have parnnass issues and this is a real solution that works. Hard to understand why they are giving people a hard time.

Perhaps focus on how taxes were recalibrated in Jackson by a private company. Many houses with reasonable selling prices/values have crazy taxes- almost the value of a second mortgage. Focus on the real problem.
Renting a basement is a result of the economy and tax inflation that have let people with little choice. There are some that even believe that this is Jackson’s retaliation. We respectfully implore the Vaad to represent it’s constituents, some of who may be too embarrassed to say we can’t afford the mortgage and/or taxes and therefore have to rent the basement or lose the house.
