It’s Friday afternoon, and the clock indicates that it is just within an hour of the zman hadlaka. Yet there is a group of boys that’s showing none of the expected signs of frazzled, last-minute preparations. Instead, they are already dressed in their crisp Shabbos attire, and are joyfully heading towards their neighborhood shul.

Indeed, a remarkable revolution in the worlds of chinuch and Kavod Shabbos is currently underway and is spreading its wings over an ever increasing list of Jewish communities.

Likras Shabbos is a comprehensive program in which boys in sixth grade and older learn the most common Shabbos related Halacha topics, including bishul, dosh, and muktzeh.

Any observer of a Likras Shabbos group in action will attest to the heartwarming ruach and ecstasy pervading the atmosphere. Nosh and refreshments are given out at each shiur.

Of course, the strongest “cheshek” is displayed by the boys when absorbing this new world of Halacha. Likras Shabbos Rabbeim relate that their shiurim turn into a lively dialogue, in which the boys clearly comprehend the Halachos’ practical applications and actively engage with questions and comments.

Particular attention is paid to the goal of the talmidim actually remembering and internalizing this newfound knowledge into their young minds. Likras Shabbos Rabbeim work tirelessly to ensure that their talmidim reap the maximum reward for their noble efforts.

In addition to the enormous benefit these talmidim derive by getting to know these Halachos, the entire Erev Shabbos experience takes on an entirely new dimension.
