New pre-Pesach trash pickup in Lakewood a tremendous success, Mayor and DPW Director say

The new pre-Pesach trash pickup tested in Lakewood this year, was overall tremendously successful, both the Mayor and Department of Public Works Director told TLS. DPW Director Pat Donnelly and Mayor Ray Coles say they received several complaints from people who were missed, but say eventually all were picked up – though delayed.

“The community adapted well,” says Donnelly, who commended the staff for a job well done.

Mayor Coles says he was glad the town was able to provide the service, which helped alleviate a lot of the pre-Pesach traffic around town, and enhanced safety.

Coles and Donnelly say there are already talks in place on how to improve and expand services for next year.

In the coming years, they hope to speed up the service, and perhaps hire outside contractors to serve the masses more efficiently.

“Hopefully this eliminate a little anxiety too!” says Mayor Coles.

The Mayor thanked the men and women of the DPW for their around-the-clock efforts, and the Director for running a smooth operation.

“Pat has been fantastic, and very proactive,” says Coles, and says “he’s on track to do an even better job next year.”

  1. I would love to see an extra pick up after Pesach/Succos. The garbage really piles up, and taking the garbage out to the Hill is unpleasant to say the least. Thanks for everything you do!

  2. I wish I could agree but my garbage bins that were left out in zone 2 weren’t picked up until Friday causing us to have overflowing bins that contained chometz
It was very nice that they took both green and yellow cans on the same truck but it was a big problem for us that it wasn’t picked up before pesach began

  3. I’m also in zone 2 and they did pick up at the last minute. However being that they were so late many people figured they are not doing it. That caused a lot of anxiaty . There needs to be a way of letting people know that even if its late it will be done. Not everyone has a smart phone with access to TLS

  4. Success? Most people I spoke to didn’t get a pick up at all while some got way to late. Mine didn’t get picked up the all, but that’s fine because I knew I couldn’t trust them & made other arrangements.

  5. Sorry, before offering this wonderful extra service you should have not used those resources to ignore the regular bulk pickup in many areas.Lots of neighborhoods were neglected around town until way into Chol HaMoed and left streets looking disgusting for Yom Tov.

  6. in zone 2 the scoop had posted that only green bins were on schedule not yellows, but they did pick up both. those that were not aware from observing the truck were unfortunate. my son ran down the block with our can and the driver still picked it up in front of a neighbors house. the other issue was when they came. 12am ! thats right the noisy truck (driver only kind) came down the street and 1 truck did both green bins and yellows !! i guess at that hour one does what he pleases !

  7. Worked out great for me thank you very much and to the complainer with the bad aditude I’m glad u found something to complain about ! If it wasn’t this you prob would have let it out on ur wife and kids

  8. Wow thank you DPW you guys did it again! Amazing job until the early morning hours. I Was really impressed with the efficient peasach pickup this year!

  9. Maybe next year why can have a garbage truck at some of the Chometz burn locations. There was piles of garbage bags all over since many residents brought their garbage to burn and firefighters were turning the garbage bags away as So e disregarded the what to bring and not being signs

  10. I think the dpw has been doing a great job under this management. However, I do have to admit, my House was also missed by the extra puck up

  11. I appreciate all the hard work of the DPW however our neighborhood was supposed to have the extra pick up on Thursday & they didn’t come until Shabbos. I had to scramble on Friday to shlep the cans to the truck in the park because they were full of Chometz & I had nowhere to put the Pesach garbage.
It’s a GREAT IDEA however we hope they to do a better job next year.
