Former Republican Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli and Democratic Rep. Mikie Sherrill are locked in a dead heat in the 2025 New Jersey governor’s race, according to a new Emerson College/PIX11/The Hill poll released today.
The survey of likely voters found Sherrill and Ciattarelli each with 43% support, while 11% said they were undecided.
The shocking poll is the first public survey to show Sherrill without a lead, but matches what internal polling from both campaigns have been showing in recent weeks.
In a post on Truth Social, President Trump, who is considering a holding a New Jersey rally sometime in October, noted that Ciattarelli will be a “GREAT” Governor.
“Wow!!! A just out poll has Jack Ciattarelli essentially beating close to incompetent Mike Sherrill in the race for Governor of New Jersey,” he wrote.
“Jack is tough on crime and cutting taxes, two things that people really demand today. He will be a GREAT Governor.”
Last summer, Trump held a well-attended rally in Wildwood, New Jersey, with tens of thousands of people in attendance.
In 2021, Ciattarelli lost a closer than expected race to the term-limited Governor Phil Murphy, losing by just 3.2%, or 84,286 votes. Prior to election day in 2021, most polls had Ciattarelli losing by an average of eight points.
That year, Ciattarelli received just over 60% of the Lakewood vote, but is expected to perform much better this November with some analysists expecting numbers close to what Trump received in what was his best performance in the state.
The economy remains the top issue for voters, with 51% naming it their leading concern.
The results highlight sharp demographic divides. Voters under 40 favored Sherrill 58% to 24%, while those over 50 backed Ciattarelli 52% to 36%. Sherrill led among women 46% to 36%, but trailed among men 51% to 39%.
Since the 1980s, New Jersey has elected a governor from the opposite party of the president every gubernatorial election except for Murphy’s narrow win in 2021.
On the flip side, no party in New Jersey has won three consecutive gubernatorial elections since Democrats won four straight in the ‘50s and ‘60s.
The poll was conducted September 22–23 among 935 voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.

I just watched a video clip where Mikie Sherrill said the following (exact quote):
“I would push an LGBTQ education into our schools. Parents have a right to opt out of many things, but this is not an area where they should be opting out.”
As governor, Sherrill would become the party leader for the far-left progressive Democrats who control the NJ legislature. So, it’s not only important for the frum community to do what we can to elect Ciattarelli, but also to give him strong Republican backing in the legislative branch. Voting for any Democrat would only help the toeiva party to maintain majority control.
