New Ordinance in Toms River Will Ban Realtors from Areas for 5 years if Neighbors Complain

tr meeting tlsA new ordinance in Toms River will prohibit realtors from soliciting neighborhoods.

The ordinance, expected to pass at the Township’s next municipal meeting, stems from a neighborhood watch proposal last night in the township. The proposal was among several other quality of life resolutions proposed.

According to the proposal, a ‘Cease and Desist’ zone would be created, which would ban realtors from soliciting a neighborhood for five years if there are certain number of complaints filed.

Also proposed, and strongly endorsed by the Police Chief, was a no-knock ordinance for Sundays and Holidays.

  1. Can’t say I blame them. There may or may not be anti Semitism underneath it all, but I can still see how realtors and others knocking on doors and asking if they want to sell can be very annoying. Why cant the oilem just behave civilly?

  2. Super happy now I don’t have to pay 200k over market value Bc some broker told the guy he can’t get a Jew to pay him 700 when house is worth 500 maybe . When their ready to sell they will put it on the market and that’s it . they won’t get that price without the brokers so they are kind of shooting themselves in the foot

  3. You silly Toms River residents; The Jews are the ones who are appreciating your property values. I know a non-Jew who lives deep into Toms River far from Lakewood and he is having trouble selling his home for even a low price. So keep shooting yourself in the foot.

  4. This is just the beginning just stay tuned TR will do anything and everything to make it miserable for orthadox jews to have the audacity to move in to their town. Free country? What’s that? We can choose our neighbors!

  5. I always wondered why no one is allowed to discriminate against anybody
when selling a home except if the one buying it is jewish. Behold Jackson, Toms River and Howell.

  6. To concerned. Its very easy to pull the anti semitism or anti orthodox card. But as someone who grew up in the lakewood community I have watched this town over my 30 years go from a small quiet town to an over crowded city that cant handle the infrastructure with over building and the quality of life significantly declined. I totally understand the people of Toms River not wanting their quiet upper class suburban town turned into a bustling city with extreme traffic and a total lack of infrastructure and zoning, planning etc. Its not our religion its the lifestyle we live and the ghetto mentality we have that we need to live on top of each other and that we dont blend into their neighborhoods, that clashes with the status quo that they are very content with.

  7. For those of you crying discrimination, maybe you should look at yourself in the mirror. I bought my home in Lakewood 40 years ago. Eight years ago, the house across the street suddenly became a shul. No warning, no variance, it just was gutted and now every day there are 40 cars coming and going, slamming doors at all hours of the day and night. People walk across my yard on the way to worship. Now the shul more than doubled in size. More cars and more distraction. My cars have had damages 3 times due to people trying to park or depart in a hurry. Several accidents as the stop sign on the corner gets ignored. Yes, my property values increased because my home is “desireable” because of its location. But knocking on my door every Sunday is not going to make me sell. There is no quality of life in Lakewood any longer, school busing costs have skyrocketed as the quality of the schools declined. If anything, Lakewood is anti gentile.

  8. Scott is very right.
Also, not everything in life is about money. These people just want to live their peaceful everyday lives with out getting nudgy realtors bothering them. So what if they can get another 200k for their house, they’re no interested in selling, they’re happy with their life

  9. But of course, anyone who wants can sign up for the ‘no-knock’ list and not be bothered. So this is just preventing Realtors from knocking on the door of OTHER people who might want to sell. In other words, keep the Jews out.

  10. just passed a printed lawn sign in Toms River that said “Toms RIver Strong-Dont Sell” . apparently its not just the nudgy realtors that bothers them, its the selling of houses.

  11. I agree that you can’t cry anti-semitism/ orthodoxy. It’s scary to watch your whole neighborhood change so drastically overnight. I love my Lakewood, but wish it wouldn’t have become such a mess and can imagine someone getting very, very nervous at the thought of their beautiful town looking like that soon. I value this lifestyle so much so it’s easier for me to see the pros of all the shuls and developments, etc. even though it’s makes life more difficult. But what do they have to gain from having a shul on their corner or 10 frum families on their block who won’t play with their kids anyway? If us frum folk find it harder and harder to live in Lakewood, why would any gentiles be intereste?

I think those of us moving in have to recognize that our neighboring towns have valid concerns and we should be extra careful to mitigate those concerns by being exemplary neighbors. That being said, these realtors are doing a tremendous disservice to those of us who are considering Jackson, Toms River, etc. because they create that resentment so that by the time we move in, our new neighbors are already wary and we’re battling perceptions that were created by the realtors.

  12. Coming from a typical Yeshiva community in an out of town environment, I fully understand where all the TR, Jackson, Howell etc. citizens are coming from. It’s embarrassing what a Chilul Hash-m sometimes people make. I love Lakewood. But I’m sad to see when people interfere with other people’s quality of life. Be it Unzereh, be it Yenim. Not everything is about developers and money. Let people live. Don’t complain when people don’t want us. It’s very understandable sadly. If only people realized how serious the sin is of Chilul Hash-m. No Tshuva possible.

  13. I have had a sign on my garage for over 30 years that reads “This Property is NOT for Sale”. It has worked all this time and my Jewish neighbors love it.

  14. It’s not anti setism in toms river, sadly the only towns people have to see how the orthodox live are Lakewood and few upstate New York. And none of us locals to toms river Jackson or Howell want our towns to end up like that. We don’t want to live in overcrowded cities it’s why we live here in the suburbs. How would the orthodox feel if a bunch of Christians were trying to move into their neighborhoods..would we be welcomed?

  15. I would also like to know if anyone can explain why when a building is built in Lakewood the sign on the building is only written in Hebrew no English. This is very off putting for non Jewish residents and should not be allowed. Why can’t we know what this building is used for? This is only one of many reasons that people don’t want their neighborhoods to change, all things feel very “unamerican” like we are living in another country.

  16. Yes, there are valid concerns that exist with regard to Jews moving to various neighborhoods. But if anyone reads the community pages belonging to these neighboring towns, pretending that than no anti-orthodox bias is involved becomes a joke. They are all rife with comments about how “they” are rude, don’t pay taxes, hate women, think “goys” aren’t human, etc. So yes, some may have legitimate concerns, but the proof that there is lots of hate going on is

  17. There needs to be some community get together where everyone’s concerns can be answered by both sides. Both sides have valid concerns and questions of the other. Communication might be helpful maybe everyone could coexist.

  18. I am quite understanding of those who don’t want their town to become crowded. But less understanding of those who don’t want Jews. Which is not the same thing, and what this is all about.
