A home in Howell was severely damaged in a fire this morning, and mulch appears to be the cause of it.
As earlier reported on TLS Status, the fire started shortly before 11:00 AM on Calloway Road in Howell.
According to neighbors, new mulch was placed near the home approximately one hour prior, and caught fire.
Mulch, being a wood product, generates heat. Known as a phenomenon called spontaneous combustion, heat can build up in mulch and eventually reach the ignition point, causing a fire.
The fire caused severe damage to the exterior of the home, but B”H there were no injuries.
