New Mulch Appears to Have Been Cause of Howell House Fire [PHOTOS]

A home in Howell was severely damaged in a fire this morning, and mulch appears to be the cause of it.

As earlier reported on TLS Status, the fire started shortly before 11:00 AM on Calloway Road in Howell.

According to neighbors, new mulch was placed near the home approximately one hour prior, and caught fire.

Mulch, being a wood product, generates heat. Known as a phenomenon called spontaneous combustion, heat can build up in mulch and eventually reach the ignition point, causing a fire.

The fire caused severe damage to the exterior of the home, but B”H there were no injuries.
