VIDEO: Yesterday, we reported about Vince Moss becoming the Medical Director of the Lung Nodule Program at Kimball Medical Center. Following the posting, a reader submitted a fascinating ABC video report of Vince, and his identical twin brother Vance Moss. Originally from Philadelphia, these brothers have endured much together including being Eagle Scouts, US Army Reservists, and are now both Doctors.
In 2005, the Moss brothers flew to Afghanistan to tend to the wounded civilians, and hired their own security, purchased their own medical supplies and chartered their own flight, after the State Department feared it would be too dangerous for them to fly there.
They operated in caves and mud shacks, and the Hospitals were only mildly better. There was no Anesthesia, no running water, and sometimes in middle of the operation, the electricity would go out, says Vince.
“And in Afghanistan, there is no malpractice insurance”. “So we’re looking around the room with men with AK-47’s and weapons watching us operate on somebody of significance, and we knew that if this patient doesn’t wake up, they’re not going to sue us. They’re going to kill us”.
Dr. Vincent Moss is a fellowship-trained thoracic surgeon, who specializes in minimally invasive techniques to enhance quality of life for individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and emphysema. ABC/TLS
mamash a kiduush hashem
kinda like in ……
His father also has an excellent sense of humor. He named his twin boys Vince & Vance !!
I wonder how this expereince is applicable in Lakewood.
Vance operated on my father to remove one of his kidneys, with Vince assisting, for the heck of it. I thought that was pretty cool. The brothers also operated for free on a little girl who had some of her internal organs growing outside her body. I think the APP did a story on them when that happened, which was before my dad. Kimball is blessed to have Dr. Moss on their team.
The are a family that does lots of “chesed” and he is the kindest gentlest doctor you will meet. We should never need his services, but I think he is a great asset to Kimball. It’s always great to have selfless people around.
