In light of the recent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, and with Trump Bedminster being within the boundaries of his legislative district, Senator Doug Steinhardt (R-23) announced he is stepping up efforts to enhance presidential security by organizing a roundtable on Thursday, August 29 with local leaders.
This initiative aims to develop practical solutions that ensure both robust protection for high-profile figures and financial support for the communities involved.
“President Trump has been a champion for our country, and it’s our duty to ensure his safety and the safety of all our leaders,” Senator Steinhardt said in a statement. “The recent attack is a stark reminder of the growing threats they face. We cannot allow our communities to bear the financial burden of these enhanced security measures alone.”
The roundtable will bring together local officials, law enforcement, and federal representatives to create a more cohesive strategy for presidential security, according to a letter sent by Senator Steinhardt to invited guests. Steinhardt emphasized the need for strong partnerships between federal agencies and local governments to protect leaders like Trump while also safeguarding local resources.
“Our communities should not have to choose between maintaining essential services and ensuring the safety of President Trump and other leaders. We need to work together to make sure that our security efforts are fully supported by federal resources, and this roundtable will be the next step in that direction,” Steinhardt added.
The roundtable will take place at the Bedminster Town Hall at 10 am on Thursday, August 29.
