More than 1 million New Jersey homeowners and renters are set to receive ANCHOR property tax relief benefits automatically this year, as the state Division of Taxation begins mailing letters confirming eligibility.
The division said Wednesday that more than 537,000 confirmation letters have been sent to homeowners and more than 549,000 to renters. The letters are being sent to most homeowners and renters under age 65 who previously received an ANCHOR benefit.
Under the state’s streamlined application system, the Division of Taxation will file an application automatically for eligible recipients based on their 2025 residency, income and age information.
Those who receive an ANCHOR Benefit Confirmation Letter generally do not need to take any additional action to receive their payment. However, taxpayers must file a new application by Sept. 15 if their name, mailing address or banking information for direct deposit has changed since their last ANCHOR payment.
The ANCHOR program provides property tax relief to eligible New Jersey residents who own or rent their primary residence and meet state income requirements.
Residents who qualify but have never previously received an ANCHOR benefit can submit a new ANC-1 application by Nov. 2. Applications can be filed through the state’s property tax relief application website.
Seniors 65 and older, as well as recipients of Social Security Disability or Railroad Retirement Disability benefits, must file a separate PAS-1 application. That application determines eligibility for the state’s three property tax relief programs: ANCHOR, Senior Freeze and Stay NJ.
The PAS-1 application is also due Nov. 2 and can be submitted online or downloaded from the state’s property tax relief application website.
Taxpayers can check the status of their property tax relief benefit through the state’s online status portal.
The Division of Taxation advises residents to review any ANCHOR confirmation letter they receive and make sure the information listed is accurate.

NJ Boating Dept. Sends Anchor Relief Notices to Thousands of Qualified Boaters & Ship Owners
Thousands of NJ boaters, ship captains and skippers are set to receive anchor relief benefits in the coming weeks to help them purchase new anchors for their water vehicles if the anchors they are currently using are damaged or just not functioning at full capacity.
Notices were sent out today to qualified boat owners requesting them to send in photographs of their damaged anchors to confirm that they are indeed eligible for anchor-relief benefits.
Addressing thousands of boaters and sea captains today at the annual Boat Owners Convention in Seaside Heights, NJ, Governor Mikie Sherrill told the crowd that: “Several months ago, I promised all of you that, if elected, I would bring ‘Anchor Relief’ to NJ. Well, I am proud to announce today that I’ve faithfully fulfilled that promise.”
“Bottom line,” she asserted, “no boatman or ship captain should be left adrift midsea without a functioning anchor and the means with which to stop their water vessels from moving forward, backward or any other direction.”
“My fellow sea voyagers,” the Governor concluded, “anchor relief has finally arrived to our shores! Full steam ahead!”
