The new positive tests have also put New Jersey among the states with a total of over 900,000 confirmed Covid-19 infections. The state has also suffered 23,850 confirmed deaths from the illness.

The Garden State has one of the highest vaccination rates in the country, with well over 70% of its populating having been inoculated against the virus. Still, the highly transmissible Delta variant has been spreading incessantly across the United States and the world, with many new illnesses being reported in recent weeks.

In Lakewood itself, new case numbers remain low. Over the past week, Lakewood, which boasts approximately 100,000 residents, averaged below 5 new cases a day.

  1. Last year people came back from vacationing and brought back the virus. It took until Rosh Hashana to realize we were in the middle of a second wave R’L.

This year people are again coming back from hot spots in progress (E”Y, Europe, various States). Did we learn our lesson and will we require children to test before school start to prevent another crisis C”V? I think that if girls schools could impose knit checking, it would be smart to test for Covid at the same time.

  2. Are these positive cases of people who have HAD covid In the past and did not vaccinate or people who have NOT HAD Covid in the past and did not vaccinate?
In other words I’m asking about natural immunity being infected again….

    • Firstly the article doesn’t say well over 79%, only well over 70%. Secondly it does not differentiate between fully vaccinated and those that only received one dose. I have also read in the newspapers published that over 70% of new Jersians have gotten one dose. And what’s the difference anyway, the new strain is definitely appearing in some vaccinated ppl. I don’t know percentage wise how many of the new positive cases are vaccinated, but the vaccine definitely does not provide 100% effectiveness.

  3. Oilam, please don’t get tested. If you don’t feel well, stay home take vitamin c and lots of fluids and hopefully it will pass. We Don’t Want Restrictions beings put in place again. Enough is Enough.

    • This has to be among the most selfish, immoral advice about COVID I’ve seen yet! So, don’t test to keep + numbers artificially low so you don’t have to change your behavior to protect those around you? People refusing to get vaccinated, refusing to wear masks, and acting like THIS are why we are still not rid of this disease. Shame!

  4. If people in Lakewood who have symptoms refuse to get tested like the response above suggests, no wonder “case numbers remain low.”
