All three New Jersey Republican members of Congress are calling on their colleague Rep. Mikie Sherrill, the Democratic nominee for governor, to release her full disciplinary records from a decades-old Naval Academy cheating scandal, citing what they describe as unanswered questions about her role and punishment.
In a joint statement, Reps. Chris Smith (R-4), Jeff Van Drew (R-2), and Tom Kean Jr. (R-7) referenced the possibility of Sherrill’s involvement in the 1994 incident. According to the lawmakers, Sherrill has acknowledged being disciplined but has not made the full scope of her conduct and punishment public.
“By her own admission, Representative Sherrill was punished for her role in the scandal after denying it,” the statement said. “Given that, it is important for voters across New Jersey to know all the facts.”
The three Republicans outlined several questions they say remain unanswered, including what Sherrill told investigators, what violations she committed, and the exact nature of her punishment. They argue the only way to achieve full transparency is for Sherrill to authorize the release of her academic, disciplinary, and investigatory records from the Naval Academy.
“If those sealed disciplinary records match Representative Sherrill’s current explanation, we are unsure why she would refuse to release the records and put this matter to rest,” the statement read.
Sherrill, who made her role as a former Navy helicopter pilot a centerpiece of her political career, has represented New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District since 2019.
She has not yet responded publicly to the latest calls for disclosure but said last week that she was punished for not revealing which students participated in the cheating.
However, at an event last Friday, she slightly altered her story, indicating she may have actually been involved in the cheating scandal directly.
“There was a test at the school that was stolen,” Sherrill said. “I did not realize it was stolen. I took the test… afterwards, … I didn’t come forward with that information.”
With the governor’s race already expected to be closely fought, the controversy has injected new uncertainty into the final stretch of campaigning.
A poll released last week underscored the high stakes of the controversy, showing the governor’s race in a dead heat between Sherrill and Ciattarelli, with both candidates tied among likely voters.

What does this have to do with anything? Is she incapable of being Governor because of this?
Doesn’t mean incapable, it means not honest, so her saying what she is gong to accomplish if she is going to be the governor, also cant be trusted perhaps.
Which politician is honest and can be trusted to do what they say?
True, many can’t however, when its clear that a potential candidate has already done that, its an additional reason to hesitate voting for that person.
Yes, and Ciattarelli has proven by his actions surrounding this situation that HE is an immoral person who cannot be trusted. The release of the private, classified information is a much more egregious act.
She has already done what? And what has she done/said that isn’t honest?
Sickarelli can’t beat her in a fair fight so the goon squad is unleashed to sully her name. Captain bone spurs probably had a hand in this because as we all know he just keeps setting the bar lower and lower for his administration.
Let’s vote for the party that wants to kill Jews.
Is the Democrat party the party that wants to ‘kill Jews’? Every Jewish senator is a Democrat and nearly every Jewish member of the House is Democrat. And what Democrat policy wants to ‘kill Jews’?
Could someone tell me what 6 x 4 is?
I’m trying to write a comment and don’t remember what 6 x 4 is.
