Once every five years North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA) submits an updated transportation plan to the State, which sets in motion traffic fixes like adding or widening roads. Although Lakewood is located in Central Jersey, our roads are included in the NJTPA’s region.
The Lakewood Vaad is spearheading a major push to ensure that Lakewood’s infrastructure needs will be a top state priority in the updated plan. The Vaad is highlighting two key roads, Route 9 and Route 88 in Lakewood. The two-lane portion of Route 9 and the 2-mile stretch of Route 88 need to be widened, with traffic causing intolerable delays and regular congestion.
Both Route 9 and Route 88 are State roads, so these fixes need to be initiated by NJTPA to the State. It is imperative for Lakewood residents to make their voices heard by the NJTPA. Inclusion on the NJTPA’s list is also a must for a project to obtain federal funding, making the NJTPA plan even more critical.
Please communicate to the NJTPA how important it is that the State dualize Route 9 and Route 88.
The NJTPA has opened its five year plan to the public for input. Its recommendations will heavily reflect public input. The deadline for public input is June 30th. Please speak up now!
To participate in the survey, please visit http://www.plan2045survey.org/ and articulate the urgency of Lakewood’s traffic situation, and how impactful it would be to widen Route 9 and Route 88.
Or you can complete and mail the following print version of the survey to:

Let’s not forget Jackson and Toms River which will need this in a few years as more Lakewood families move out there. Include them in the survey.
They should of done something about this years ago instead of waiting til now to fix the problem and not only that they to do something about drainage system in this town everytime it rains the roads all get flooded .
If the town wants Rt88 to be wider why are they letting people build up to the street?
I’m pretty sure the people of this town has given up on anything getting done
Anything productive, that is
