New Jersey American Water Places Mandatory Restrictions On Water Usage

Lakewood residents report that they have received messages from New Jersey American Water, informing them of mandatory restrictions placed on water usage.

The company says that an operational issue at one of its primary water treatment plants and high water demands forced them to make this decision.

The company is now prohibiting their customers from using their water for activities such as watering lawns, washing cars, and filling pools. The restrictions are in effect until further notice. NJAW is also asking its customers to conserve indoor water usage as much as possible until they get things back to normal.

NJAW says they will contact customers to inform them when they can return to using their water without restrictions.

  1. Will they reimburse homeowners who’s lawns will now need more work out into them? I.e. dead grass due to no watering?

  2. A healthy established lawn does not die from lack of water. It may get brown and grow dormant but will green up again once it’s watered. A newly seeded lawn does need water until it is fully established
