New Customer Friendly Towing Ordinance Passes, Includes New $50 Fee

towingA new ordinance aiming for a more customer friendly towing experience, has been passed by the Township – in place of the failed proposed impound lot. The ordinance passed has mainly changed the the way towing companies handle billing and impounds. According to the new ordinance, the towing companies are now required to accept credit card payments, which until now was not a requirement.

The most drastic change however, is the fees charged for a tow.

Under the new ordinance, a flat fee for a regular tow will now be $150 – which includes a newly applied $50 fee to the township – versus an uncertain fee that was applied beforehand.

“The reason for this ordinance is two-fold”, Mayor Steven Langert tells TLS. “First, if a person is in an unfortunate situation of having his car towed, he should not have to guess what his fee will be”, says Langert. “Secondly, while it is true that the township is raising revenue through every tow, something which wasn’t done before, the overall fee for the standard tow, will be less than what was charged in the past”, Langert says.

Also affected, is the business hours and schedules of the towing companies.

Towing companies will now be required to have extended hours and less days off, to enable customers – whose vehicles were impounded – to pick up their vehicles at a more convenient time.

For example, hours on Saturday which used to be from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m., will now be from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

“I’m looking forward in working along with their new ordinance”, says Moshe Matzliach of Yitz Auto Body. “There was a lot of negotiations and I’m glad that it was worked out”, he says.

The new ordinance is effective immediately. TLS.

  1. This is a good example of Govt getting it right. The city gets to raise revenue and at the same time reduces costs to its residents. Keep up the good work

  2. TLS Editors, please take note of the following error:

From the paragraph starting with “The reason for this ordinance is two-fold”, about 4 lines down:

“something which wasn’t doesn’t before, the overall fee for the standard”

Yeah, if I’m not mistaken, there is a glaring syntax error right there. Please fix it.

    Thank you.

  3. its actually an interesting shaila which i will ask my Rav, if the towing company is Frum, are you mechuyav to pay him to get your car back, if yes under which halacha would that be, you never hired him.maybe you can even charge him for the loss of not having your car, i’ll post back when i get a clear answer

  4. to all whom are concerned about the new ordinance.
have no fear we are still here.
we will remain to be there for everyone who wants to save money and agmas nefesh.
by NJ state law, and as stressed in the new ordinance anyone may hire their own tow truck, given they can respond timely, which we B”H always do.
so, if you or your friend is is unfortunately in an accident
dont delay and call ALL THE WAY Towing, and we will be there for you
    Right Away!

  5. To all the way, how much are your fee’s? I think the $150 the township towing companies charge is reasonable? You are not regulated by law how much to charge and charge whatever you would like. If I am cv” ever in a accident I would just let the police handle the towing as it is all regulated what they can charge for the tow and for the storage. I don’t think I would be thinking if maybe I can save $20 or maybe it might cost me more I would be more worried about that no one is injured and that everyone is ok.

Thanks you mayor Langert for all the hard work you do to save the town residents money and to raise money to lower our taxes hopefully

  6. everyone knows that all the way is the best way in lakewood.
if you think 150 dollars is reasonable and not to mention the storage fees and other fees on top of that then by all means please support the lakewood twp they need your money.

  7. how much money did the town patchke away to give these tow companies a gift? how much income will this give the taxpayer and what would the impound lot have given? eppis shtinkt doo

  8. untill now the kick backs were inter de tish now they try to legalize it. no wonder why all the way doesnt want to join them.
keep on truckin all the way we need more businesses like you who dont go for the chanifah.

  9. This new ordinance was adopted in order to help those who have the unfortunate event of having their vehicle impounded for MV violations. In these instances, the owner now receives the first 24 hours of storage at no charge, there is no longer a yard fee or administration fee allowed to be charged on the flat fee $150.00 to get you vehicle back within 24 hours of the impound.
