In recognition of National Epilepsy Awareness Month, Assemblywoman Yvonne Lopez is calling attention to her bill, A2255, which aims to strengthen seizure-response training requirements for New Jersey school staff.
The legislation would amend Paul’s Law by requiring all school employees — including those in after-school and school-sponsored programs — to undergo updated training in caring for students with epilepsy and seizure disorders every five years.
“There’s no room for guesswork when a student has a seizure at school – every second counts,” Lopez said. “This bill would ensure that all school staff are regularly trained to recognize and respond to seizures because in those critical moments, knowing what to do can save a life.”
Paul’s Law, enacted in 2020, requires schools to develop seizure action plans and mandates annual updates by school nurses. While the law calls for staff training, it does not specify how often that training must occur — a gap A2255 seeks to close.
The measure is also sponsored by Assemblyman William B. Sampson IV and Assemblywoman Linda Carter.

Why are so many kids having seizures these days? Oh, I forgot. We aren’t supposed to ask any questions. Just follow the “science” (which just so happens to be what makes Big Pharma money). #MAHA
Lots of issues today. Including the way we eat. The Frum diet over the last couple decades has become one of total disregard for ones health. Why does every child today get candies for basically showing up in school? Why do we eat more pastries daily in our community, then was done 25 years ago in a week? Epilepsy has been around for decades as well. Some of it is genetics, just like diabetes and every single other illness.
And what’s causing the seizures to begin with? Most likely vaccines – that child got or that mother got – especially during pregnancy.
It’s called “covid”
How about my friend who was born with epilepsy about 60 years ago? Was that also covid?
Go back to the 1500’s and live in a shack. No heat, running water or electricity. No seforim either.
This idea that you’re oing to train several hundred thousand people on how to deal with a child having an epileptic seizure, while so many of these very teachers have the intelect of a newborn is insane.
Oh that is ugly!!! Are you including all teachers, even those in your schools? Wow. Just ugly and judgemental.
