Nearly 300 lbs of Unused Drugs Collected in LPD’s Take Back Initiative

drug takebackLakewood Police this past weekend collected nearly 300 lbs of unused and expired prescription drugs during the National Drug Take back Initiative, Captain Greg Meyer – the D.A.R.T. liaison for Lakewood says.

The 298.5 lbs collected from various senior communities in Lakewood was the most ever collected during such an event, police say. The previous record was 166 lbs.

Off-duty officers from Lakewood Police Department’s SOA and PBA organizations volunteered their time for the event.

The take back initiative secures the drugs and properly disposes of them in an effort to prevent them from falling into the wrong hands.

Communities involved in the initiative included 1. A Country Place, Fairways at Lake Ridge, Harrogate, Original Leisure Village, Leisure Village East, Lions Head Woods, Four Seasons and Horizons at Woodlake.

Prescription drugs can always be dropped off at the bin inside the Lakewood Police Department’s lobby.
