With registration open for just four days, over 180 people already signed up for the 2014 Bike 4 Chai Summer tour.
A coordinator tells TLS this year’s tour will be capped at 400 riders.
The 2014 Bike 4 Chai tour, which will take place July 30th and 31st, 2014, will kick off in Piscataway, NJ heading to Scranton, PA and then to Camp Simcha in Glen Spey, NY.
The ride will be both gorgeous and challenging,” says Chai Lifeline. “With approximately 7,500 ft of elevation on day 1 while cycling through the Pocono Mountains, Bike4Chai will offer a challenge to the best of our riders. Yet, with our SAG system in place it will be doable for our more inexperienced riders as well.”
Day 2 offers some steep climbs, rolling hills and a 16 mile stretch of downhill riding.
“As everyone completes the 170 mile ride through 3 states and comes into Camp Simcha, the feelings of accomplishment and excitement are going to be palpable!”

The bike tour – the brainchild of Dovid Egert – during its first year raised $10,000. Last year, over $2.5 million was raised.

Total disregard to halacha to have it during the 9 days. hopefully the organizers will reconsider and reschedule.
I am not signing up since it’s during the 9 days
what ever happened to being dan l’kaf z’chus. how can you assume they are disregarding halacha? have you been at any of their meetings? spoken to their rav? not only did they get a “heter” they got a “lchatchila”.
the boys session must be during bein hazmanim so they have the counselors. there are both regular camp simcha & simcha special for boys which they alternate between the 9 days and the weeks after. since bike4chai can only be done during simcha special there are going to be years when bike4chai falls out on 9 days. and no they cant change it because it wouldnt be fair to regular camp simcha to always gat 9 days/tisha baav schedule. after all the whole purpose of bike4chai is to make it better for the kids not worse!!!!
Goyishe zach. Mamash gevalt!
#3 The kids couldn’t care less if the bikers drove 50 feet in fact there were campers who were upset about it. The only ones who enjoy this are the bikers, and its convinient to have it before shabbos.
Sorry, this is an event that is scheduled based around the Camp’s schedule, a camp for children who face challenges every day of their life. We are in it for the Mitzvah, the Chessed, the Bein Adam La’Chaveiro, I see no issue of nine days here, this is a Mitzvahs Tzedaka Ride, we are shelichei Mitzvah! “V’Sheluchei Mitzvah Einum Nizokin”
