A U.S. Department of Labor report released Thursday showed a 19-month low in jobless workers filing new claims for unemployment benefits in New Jersey, a report on NorthJersey.com said. New claims fell by 2,500 to 9,273 in the third week of March, nearly a 20 percent drop, according to the report. That marks the lowest level of new unemployment claims since July, 2008, although New Jersey’s new claims number is still the fourth largest in the nation. The number of people using unemployment benefits in the state has seen a modest drop, falling 1,600 in the second week of March, the report said. Star Ledger.
