In response to a statewide backlog of MVC appointments, Assemblyman Avi Schnall (D-Lakewood) has arranged for the NJ Motor Vehicle Commission Mobile Unit to visit Lakewood later this month.
Residents interested in booking an appointment can do so via the NJ MVC Mobile Unit online portal, which will go live on Tuesday, July 15, between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM. Due to high demand and limited availability, appointments are expected to fill quickly.
The mobile unit will be at the Lakewood Municipal Building, 231 3rd Street on Tuesday, July 29.
Appointments are required for:
- REAL ID
- Registration Renewal
- Initial Permit**Tests are NOT given at the Mobil Unit
- Non-Driver ID
- Duplicate/ Replacement Title or Registration
No Appointment Necessary for these services:
- Surrendering license plates
- Handicapped, Veterans, or Purple Heart placecards
- Purchase red GDL decals
Earlier this year, the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission announced additional opportunities for its customers to get a REAL ID with the creation of dedicated “REAL ID Thursdays” at Licensing Centers across the state.

what is needed to get one. if i have a license now and a valid passport do i need anything else?
No that’s enough to fly for now
I you have a VALID passport , you don’t need a real ID for traveling. A passport is an accepted form of ID from the federal government. However , if your passport expires , you need to get a new one otherwise you will need a Real ID at that point.

It went live with 60 appointments and was booked by 1:03 pm. By the time I filled in the information the slot I wanted was taken. I tried again immediately and by then everything was gone. If someone reading this has the ability to arrange this again, there is obviously a great need. Please help!!
