NJ Municipalities, Counties Allowed To Restrict Non-Essential Services Under New Exec Order

Governor Murphy announced at his press conference today that he will be signing an executive order permitting individual municipalities and counties to regulate business operating hours after 8 PM.

The governor said this will allow for a “surgical approach” to be taken in combating the coronavirus outbreak in New Jersey.

Municipal or county actions, such as restrictions on essential businesses, full business closures, or restrictions on gatherings/capacity that differ from statewide rules, will be impermissible and will be invalidated by Governor Murphy.

New Jersey is currently experiencing a second wave of Covid-19. The state on Thursday recorded an additional 3,507 positive cases, bringing its cumulative total to 266,986. This latest move by the governor is intended to allow for regular life to go on as much as possible, while still taking steps to mitigate the spread of the virus.

  1. Whats with the 8pm time? We know from the other day that covod only spreads between 10pm and 5am or is he saying it starts spreading at 8pm? Remember if you are at a BLM protest or any anti Trump protest it cant spread there or at any biden victory celebration. This is SCIENCE.

  2. Very impressive. The governor is giving power to the municipalities and counties, so they can deal with it in a \way that works best for each location.
Is the governor a secret Republican?
