Multiple vehicles in at least two developments were burglarized over Shabbos in Lakewood.
In the area of Ridge Avenue, as well as in the Forest Park area, a burglar on Friday night/early Shabbos morning made entry into multiple unlocked vehicles, and was seen on camera attempting to unsuccessfully gain access into multiple other locked vehicles.
The burglar made off with checks and other items.
Police are investigating.
I live in the development and this is something we could all help each other out by everyone chipping in and having security cameras throughout the development and a very big clear sign in the beginning of development stating that the entire area is under surveillance. I think this will be a tremendous deterrence to thieves. This idea I discussed with the HOA by my area and for some reason they never did it yet.
Sorry Moish. I live in a development and can barely keep up with my property tax bill. I don’t have an extra dime to shell out for security cameras. I’m left to rely on the authorities doing the job that I break my back to pay through my high property taxes.
TLS reports this same story almost every week. How hard is it for people to lock their cars and remove valuables?
Locking the doors on your vehicle works wonders to a potential car burglar. They will pass that vehicle by. Forcing a door makes a lot of noise they don’t like the attention.
Unlocked cars???? Lakewood isn’t the sleepy small town it used to be. If you’re negligent with your own property don’t complain.

We are in the year 2018! Any future building (Yes I know how most of you feel about that)should include video surveillance automatically just like parking lots are a given. Even if the builder has to spend a little more it should be a given. The builder has raked in enough on the kehilla over the last many years. Very Simple. No security cameras needed. LOCK YOUR CAR DOORS! Do you leave your house unlocked at night or when you go away? Most burglaries are through open doors. I understand some may be break-ins but the burglar always tries the easy way first. Don’t leave bones outside and complain that it attracted dogs. They’re just following their natural tendencies.
Yes, locking your car doors is a must just like nobody would go to sleep without locking their house doors. Regarding having video surveillance I think it’s a good idea for the Builder to install it but it will need maintenance and that the HOA has to pay for it. Having video surveillance is not only a deterrent for car thieves also for other problems that happened in developments like attempted kidnapping and the likes…
Grainy photos of guys in ski masks. Not a lot of benefit for the cost.
It’s only grainy if the cameras our junk. You can get a full system with eight high resolution cameras & NVR with a hard drive for about $800. Yes that’s not “dirt cheap” but it’s a lot cheaper than it was just a couple years ago. I have a similar system around my home (with some cameras easily noticeable) and can assure you when most potential thieves see this they just move on to the next house.

as someone in the business the cheapest price for an outdoor system with somewhat clear video footage is 14k
Locking doesn’t always help I locked my car. They smashed my window. Cost me a lot of money to repair.
Lock your cars, most autos have alarms that are triggered when a vehicle break in is attempted.
Please do not keep any type of bag in your car at night. The burglar is hoping desperately to find something valuable in that bag. He might brake the window to check that bag.
