Multiple Lakewood homes burglarized while homeowners slept

Multiple homes in a Lakewood development were burglarized over Shabbos while the homeowners slept.

In at least one of the incidents, the burglar(s) forced entry to the home using a screwdriver.

At least four Brookhill homes were burglarized, and possibly more.

Cash was taken from at least two of the homes.

Lakewood’s Detective Bureau and CSI are investigating.

  1. Forced entry while people are home it’s pretty dangerous ! It’s more then tire slashing! We don’t want this turning in the the Wild West were people going to sleep Friday night after the Suddah with a packed pistol within hands reach

  2. “Lakewood Detective Bureau and CSI are investigating”

Do these investigations go anywhere? Always reading that they are investigating and don’t hear anything after that. Are there any updates on the criminal(s) who feel they have carte blanche to slash our tires?

Can the commissioner please ensure us proper stops are being taken to reassure our safety, the safety of our homes etc? Criminals are seeing & reading these same reports and looking at us like we are easy prey and the way things are going they are probably right.

  3. From personal experience, please report it but if you suspect that gloves were used, no reason to let the officer or sherif hang around for a couple hours there or blacken up your doors drawers and windows. Just let him write the report, thank them and they should leave. They will almost never get back to you or find the thieves . Unless u have a video of them or there are fingerprints, then maybe they will be caught.

  4. Will we ever tune in on a Motzoei Shabbos and not read about burglaries and vandalism?? This will not stop until one of these burglars learns a lesson they will never forget. ThenPolice do not seem capable of deterring these animals.

  5. I feel terrible for those victims. HaMakom yimalei chesronchem.
@violated- that’s a gr8 name, because you mamesh feel violated.
As for the investigation, several times in the recent past, LPD detectives and CSI do, indeed, find the perps.
May this happen again, soon !!

  6. We had a cleaning lady by the name of Gloria , older women probably mid 50’s . After 2 years of working by us and some neighbors, she unlocked some windows on a Thursday and that Friday night at 3 am , they came in . Luckily the motion detector went off and they ran out leaving the door open until someone the next afternoon closed it, as we weren’t home that Shabbos. As soon as she found out that the police were on her tail , she and her daughter of sister moved away.

  7. Why are people blaming the police for this? Shameful! What are -you- doing to secure your -own- home? Take a little responsibility and be grateful to them for doing their best to protect the community and putting themselves at risk for you.

  8. This was in Brookhill. Because we weren’t home we were hit the worst and all my real jewelry was taken in addition to $2000 cash. As far as I know they only took cash from the other homes and only went to the main floor.

  9. Don’t blame Police. It is the victims in 99% of these cases fault for leaving there home and valuables unsecured. Resulting in the daunting task of our fine police to try and solve a mystery of a case. Self reflect and lock your doors and windows.

  10. It is unwise to publicize on TLS (or anywhere for that matter) what nature and value of items were stolen from you. Simply call them “undisclosed valuables.” Thieves and unscrupulous people also read TLS and any public media. Advertising to the general public that your home was robbed of hundreds or thousands of dollars of jewelry or actual cash, only gives more incentive to them or others to commit these burglaries in yet more homes. Give the police and the insurance companies the actual amounts, but keep the details private. Otherwise you are only hurting the next guy.

Next, it’s time to install motion sensor lights, sirens, burglar-proof locks on windows, doors, etc. The biggest deterrent is a well-lit exterior or a surprise light or alarm that scares them off. Cameras only help in retrospect, and if they cover their face with a hoodie, they’re less helpful.

Perhaps it’s time to consider armed security patrols for neighborhoods on Shabbos nights. $25 or less per home per month depending on how many homes sign up, sounds very reasonable, until the perps are all caught. There is a very ehrliche yid in town offering to arrange this security service.

  11. We also had a speaking Spanish cleaning lady by the name of Ruth J.
she stole lots of staff from us when left unattended. She also stole from our neighbor.
