  1. That corner is extremely dangerous. Not good lighting, no cross walks, and no ability to cross safely. Ie when crossing at that corner there will always be cars going at you.

  2. i worry so much about the chassidishe women who dont drive and the young children frequenting that corner. its so dangerous. its really not an area meant for pedestrians…

      • Nothing to do with antisemitism.
You simply need to pick up the phone and call the Township and request it.
None of the comments here are saying that this was requested and ignored.

        • they don’t have the initiative to figure this out on their own? this is not like a special favor or something extra, these streets have been available to visit and study for years, and any recent construction should have been accompanied with the relevant pedestrian and traffic safety improvements.

        • The state DoT has to approve everything, even parking lot diagrams. To put crosswalks, lights, stop signs, etc, a request to them must be submitted. Then the bureaucracy starts….studies, surveys…it usually takes a while unless pressured by the locals.

  3. To be exact, I sent an email to Robert Lawson, the then chief of Police on April 10, 2013. He said he’ll reach out to the township engineer. Like everything in this town. Nothing was done. Sad.

    • I have a letter in my emails dated 9/14/2020 about all the changes David Silberstein from Lakewood safety unit suggested to improve the safety on Somerset ave.
      NOTHING was done.
We don’t park on the street anymore.
      Situation is exactly the same.

  4. That corner is the most messed up corner in terms of how the lights and lanes are set up.

Going north and south there are dedicated left turning lanes like most of the main roads in lakewood, but going west and east the left turning lane is also the straight lane, there’s a dedicated right turning lane which makes no sense.

You see many people take the dedicated right turning lane to go straight instead of waiting for the left turning lane to turn left so that you can go straight.

As a pedestrian you just don’t know where you’re supposed to be looking to see if there’s cars coming at you because the intersection contradicts itself.
