New Jersey Attorney General Matt Platkin and the Division of Criminal Justice announced charges against a Newark man and four co-defendants for their roles in a statewide car theft ring, which included victims in Lakewood.
Samir White, 19, of Newark, is charged with multiple crimes, including conspiracy, auto theft, home invasion burglary, and weapons offenses. His co-defendants — Quamine McDonald, Samir Jordan, Tysir Philips, and Tauheed McLean — were also charged for their respective roles in the alleged auto theft ring.
The same suspects were involved in a dramatic Lakewood incident on November 18, 2024, as was reported by TLS.
After stealing a 2023 BMW X7 from a parking lot in Lakewood’s Westgate development in broad daylight, the suspect than rammed into a Lakewood Police Department vehicle and another car while fleeing. He then abandoned that car and escaped on foot into a nearby schoolyard before fleeing in a second getaway vehicle.
From September 2024 through February 10, 2025, the New Jersey State Police Motor Vehicle Crimes North Unit investigated members of an auto theft and home burglary crew, including White, that allegedly targeted high-end vehicles throughout the states of New Jersey and New York.
White and others allegedly used stolen vehicles to travel to target locations throughout Monmouth, Ocean, and Essex counties, where they forced entry into homes using a crowbar, removed expensive items and key fobs to vehicles, then stole the homeowner’s vehicles from the residence. The estimated value of vehicles stolen is approximately $700,000.
White was allegedly linked to these incidents through a combination of electronic and physical surveillance, common clothing, and cellular data.
First-degree crimes carry a sentence of 10 to 20 years in state prison and a fine of up to $200,000. Second-degree charges carry a sentence of five to 10 years in state prison and a fine of up to $150,000. Third-degree charges carry a sentence of three to five years in prison and a fine of up to $15,000.

How can you be so idiotic as to blow a red and smash a cop with a stolen car? boggles the mind
I’ve worked as a mental health clinicial with these kids from Newark for many years. They want to joyride, they live for the day. Everyone they know is either dead or in jail by the time they’re 24 years old. They can’t imagine any other life for themselves. They start out as sweet kids, just like any other kid. But this has been their life, and the life of every man they’ve known, since infancy.
There is no path for them from a life of crime to a steady job. They expect to go out, and they figure better to go out in a blaze of glory. Instead of DEI, which only helps the wealthy minorities, we need men to go into these communities as mentors. This is what government handouts does to a community over generations. It’s really very sad.
Moshe- Thanks for this quite insightful explanation… didn’t really expect one.
Must be pretty smart-managed to get away
This is what’s going on in most big cities across the country like Baltimore and Chicago. Its the wild west
