[COMMUNICATED] Do you remember Lakewoodopoly – the adorable Lakewood version of the popular Monopoly game? Are you from the many who had tried to purchase it but came to the store only to hear that it was already sold-out? Perhaps you are from those who complained that after hours of fun-filled use, the game became incomplete and worn-out, and you would like to buy a new one? Or maybe you are from the “I’ll buy it when my kids get old enough to appreciate it” group – only, it became unavailable shortly after it hit the stores.
Well, there’s great news! Lakewoodopoly’s original producer, Mekor Hachinuch, has heard all of you, and decided to reproduce the game – only better. With an updated array of stores and areas, and more vibrant and loveable pictures and designs, the brand-new Lakewoodopoly is sure to be the most cherished game in your toy closet. Hurry and join the Lakewoodopoly fun. The new version is already in stores.
Lakewoodopoly, originally produced in 2011, began as a fundraising initiative for Mekor Hachinuch. It was designed to follow the same game structure as the original Hasbro Monopoly game, only that the properties are familiar Lakewood stores and sites, and the game’s theme revolves around popular elements of our beautiful town. Children have a blast purchasing their local clothing store with their stashes of hard-earned play money, or trading Bagel Nosh for NPGS grocery store. “Camp Yachad!? I have a great time there in the summer – but what’s it doing on our game-board!!?” Such excitement is commonplace during Lakewoodopoly gameplay. Along with the fun and the giggles comes an unleashing of children’s imaginations and the development of their strategic prowess and decision-making skills. “In our wildest dreams, we could not have imagined the level of enthusiasm with which this game was accepted!” said a co-creator of the first version. Within a short while, the complete stock was sold-out of all stores, and requests for a reprint began coming to her from all directions. Mekor Hachinuch and the game’s creators chose to take the time to redesign and update the game rather than immediately reproduce the original version. Now, after an investment of tremendous effort and incredible creativity, it’s back!
Lakewoodopoly is now available for purchase at many local stores, including NPGS, Zundel Berman’s, Toys for Thought, Center of Town, Junee, Bagel Nosh and Shloimy’s Kosher World. And, as you watch your children play, and see the delight on their faces, you can smile too, with the knowledge that you supported an important Moisad Hatorah and upheld a generation of students.
I would not buy this game because it does not represent the beautiful Lakewood I once knew!!
My kids love this game and Mekor Hachinuch is an amazing organization that has helped many children.
