Mayor Coles to look into improving lighting around Lake Carasaljo following assault

Following an assault on a woman walking around the lake last week, Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles will be looking into improving lighting around Lake Carasaljo, the Mayor told TLS exclusively.

“Safety is our number one concern,” Coles said.

A woman walking around Lake Carasaljo around sunset time was thrown to the ground and assaulted. Police are still investigating the incident.

Earlier this year, TLS reported the Township is looking to add solar lights along the walking bridge, but the Township will now look improve lighting around the entire walking area, including adding more lighting if deemed necessary.

  1. There are other walking paths in neighboring towns that are well lit and under video surveillance, this should be done to lake carasaljo walking path as well. It should be well lit and have surveillance cameras as a basic security measure for the many many people who would like to use this path.

  2. Thank you Mayor Coles for undertaking this project, this has been long overdue and appreciated. I utilize this walking path very often and would be very appreciative of this proposed safety improvement.

  3. I agree with Jay, I am a Lakewood resident over 25 years. Improved lighting for the walking path is long overdue and looking forward to its implementation, As my Wife and daughter frequently walk around the lake and have voiced concerns over this issue.

  4. Basically most of this town needs better lighting. Most of the lights are from at least 50+ years ago, when there was horse and buggys. Older than most people in Lakewood including the Mayor.
