Mayor Akerman on Fire Which Killed 6 Year Old: This Is A Terrible Tragedy

“This is a terrible tragedy”, says Mayor Albert Akerman of Friday’s fire which left a 6 year old dead and his brother in serious condition. The Mayor, along with Committeeman Meir Lichtenstein – who serves as a Fire Department Chaplain and Liaison to Emergency Services in Lakewood – immediately upon hearing about the fire went down to the scene and to the Hospital.

“Committeeman Lichtenstein and I went down to KMC to offer support to the injured First Responders and to offer our support and condolences to the family”, says Mayor Akerman.

The Mayor and Committeeman Lichtenstein also arranged for Pastoral care and assisted with other necessary arrangements. TLS.

The Mayor cannot do anything because an enclosed fire box in a tent is not against any of the current written regulations . If there is a open fire in a open barrel or on the ground the law has been broken. At that point the fire must be put out and person who started fire could be subject to a fine.
Thank you to the mayor and committeeman for the support shown to both the family and the responders

  2. To3: Well make it against the regulations!
Why cant the committee men pass regulations to improve the safety and quality of life of all Lakewood residents? This is one thing they CAN do instead of always passing the buck to the judge.

  3. Hey! Yeah, you with the griping about the Tent City fires! We KNOW it is an issue that MUST be contended with but you are quite demeaning to the family who lost their child by opening up a forum unrelated to the topic at hand! Take out a marshmallow or two, relax and let Mayor Akerman – who has been elected mayor for a whole FIVE days! – do his job and I am certain he will put out your fires.

  4. It is terribly sad and my heart does go out to the poor family.
In interest of preventing further tragedies due to fires burning in the woods near densely populated neighborhoods the committee men must ACT.

  5. From the desk of the superintendent
    Laura Winters.
The family is in need of assistance.
Although the family is in need of everything, monetary donations are needed ASAP, to assist with funding the child’s burial.

Main office staff will collect all donations and forward them to Jo-Ann Zsamba at the District Office on Tuesday, January 8, 2013

  6. such a sad thing no parent should ever have to go through,to those who are so insensitive to use this forum for their own sounding board , I only hope you never have to go through such a tragedy

  7. RIP little one. Pray that his brother fully recovers. Pray that his parents, family and friends find the strength to overcome their grief. Thank you Mayor for your concern and consideration.
