Maser Consulting, the company tasked to perform the traffic studies in Lakewood, says it conducts the studies when school is in session.
“We always try to make sure that traffic counts are done at a time that accurately represents the normal traffic flow (For example we never do counts in the summer when schools are out),” the company said.
Survey crews are currently out surveying intersections in preparation for five traffic lights coming to Lakewood.
As part of the study, Maser recommended traffic lights at several heavily congested intersections: Pine and MLK, Oak and Vine, Oak and Albert, 7th and Forest, and 1st and Clifton.
The actual traffic counts – for purpose of programming the signal timing – will be taking place within the next few weeks.
The traffic lights could still take several months to install as they conclude several parts of the process, including survey work, traffic counts, design of the signals, review by the Township Engineer, bidding and then finally construction. Some of them may also require approval from the NJDOT.
Maser, Please take care of James & Williams.
I was thinking the same as I’m reading this article!
Don’t forget to sync the traffic lights
They are wasting their money putting a light signal on 1st and Clifton. Let them put that one on Cedarbridge and Ave of the Estates instead. There is also one needed badly at Pine & Washington.
it dosent make a diffrence what they do till they widen rt 9 for now you cant drive from 7am to 8 pm in lakewood period 3
The light at pine and martin luther will make marc drive and washington more backed up because it will be impossible for pple to make left turns. Now that its stop n’go pple driving on pine let pple on marc drive turn. If its constantly moving or at a standstill due to the light the people on marc will be unable to turn left. This happened when they had police directing traffic at the beginning of the year.
I completely agree!!! but don’t forget about pine river and forest park. You wont be able to get out of these developments. I sent this point to maser two months ago but apparently they think otherwise
I agree. It will make it impossible to turn left from Marc Dr.
Williams and james needs something
Even a 3 way stop sign should be good
Or maybe a crossing gard
Something!
What about oak and rt 9
I second oak and route 9. with all the schools you cant leave that intersection.
Once they are at light timing. maybe the lights at Central and route 9, should be longer to allow more cars to drive through route 9, and clearing the corridor?
Oak and Albert ? How about putting a turn signal light at Oak street and New Hampshire avenue so cars can turn safely there are to many accidents on this corner and to much of a back up because cars can not turn.
I agree Williams and James needs something. I wrote a letter to Lakewood_Traffic@maserconsulting.com suggesting something at Williams and James. I also wrote a letter to the mayor thru TLS about a light at Williams and James. Would it also be helpful to wire a letter to the county? It would be helpful to know what the township and what maser thinks about that intersection.
I drive to yeshiva 4 times a day, the four way stop sign on forest and 6th works great.
Forest and seventh just needs a 4 way. Its NEVER badly backed up. Traffic light will just add congestion
Clifton and first needs a light. Buts will not provide relief. Cars cannot enter if traffic is laways backed up from main till first.
Are they scheduled to open Vine and Arlington before they install the light by MLK and Pine or at a later time?
I second oak and route 9
If you think James and Williams is bad now….. very soon about 30 feet away, there will be a busy entrance to the new development being built behind the water company property. James/Williams area is about to become a disaster. Thanks to all those that approved this.
James and Williams is desperate for a light and please sync lights. Also light on Williams and Prospect needs to have an eye to be able to change as needed like by James and Sunset. Thanks for all your efforts.
No one has spoken about Cedarbridge and S Clover. That can be a very lengthy wait going east on Cedarbridge turning left to S Clover. What about a left hand turning lane with a sensor. I have been stuck there sometimes 5 light changes at rush hour. Also the same intersection coming south on S. Clover they have redone the apartments there and now people are parking their cars almost up to the lights. What about a right turn lane there 6-8 car lengths. The traffic on S Clover at peak times is also very difficult when right turn and left turn are sharing the same lane.
I ditto the cedarbridge and south clover. What about chestnut and new Hampshire?
cedarbridge and route 9 are not township roads so nothing can be done by the township.
Guys, James and Williams is getting a traffic light. The county approved it a while ago.
Just takes time to actually get it.
Put one on the corner of Somerset and e.7 th street
Instead of sending their workers to do surveys, why don’t they just ask a few lakewood drivers where the issues are.there assessment will be a lot more accurate. [But I do agree that if they do that they might actually get the real answers which this twp.doesn’t usually like to know!]
All of the above!
(And more…)
Just to let you all know, before the boom in Lakewood, when people used to go to AC, rt 9 was always heavily trafficked
There’s not really much u can do about it
Widening Rt 9 would cost billions of dollars aside from the huge hefsed momin of eminent domain where many people would lose their properties
Widen RT 9 is just a dream that will never ever come to fruition
Since Lakewood has became ugly and congested because of unplanned growth and development, just like Boro Park, why don’t we have a traffic light on every corner, just like Boro Park?
Oak and vine is a must!!!!
The commenter who called lakewood ugly should have been moderated. Lakewood is the most beautifull place on GDs earth. Second to Jerusalem)
