A Manchester man is in custody in connection with a shooting in Toms River.
On Monday morning, January 13, Toms River Police responded to the Hope’s Crossing Apartment Complex in Toms River for reports of a drive-by shooting. Upon investigation, police determined that no one was injured as a result of the shooting.
Following a cooperative investigation between the Toms River Police Department, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department, authorities identified the shooter as 20-year-old Javir Askew-Mayweather of Manchester, NJ. He was subsequently charged with three counts of attempted murder.
On February 4, 2025, the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force took Askew-Mayweather into custody at the Tropicana Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City, NJ. The multi-jurisdictional investigation was assisted by the following law enforcement agencies: the United States Marshals Office, the Atlantic City Police Department, the Neptune Police Department, the Manchester Police Department, the Monmouth County Regional SWAT Team, and the Ocean County SWAT Team.
Askew-Mayweather is currently lodged in the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.
