The man suspected of spraying a Lakewood gas station attendant with oven cleaner back in June, was arrested, Detective Sergeant Greg Stattofsmith said.
In June, officers responded to the BP Gas Station located at 780 River Avenue to investigate a robbery.
Upon arrival, the attendant, a 48 yr old Lakewood man, reported that he was approached by a white male who was clean shaven and a bald head. While retrieving a pack of cigarettes for the man, he was grabbed and sprayed with oven cleaner. The suspect then took approximately $1,200 from the victim’s pocket before fleeing northbound on River Avenue.
After a several month investigation, Det. Jason Pederson and Officer Chase Messer developed information in the case that led to the arrest 44 year old Gerardo Guillermo Ruiz, of Lakewood, for his involvement in the robbery.
Ruiz was charged with Robbery, Theft and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose on October 9, 2014
Bail was set at $175,000 without a 10% option by Judge Wendel Daniels. He is currently in Ocean County Jail.
