A Lakewood resident died after being struck by a vehicle on Rt. 9 in Howell, police say.
At approximately 1:55am, the 30-year-old pedestrian was walking south on Route 9 between Alexander Avenue and Ford Road when he was struck by a vehicle which was driven by a 53-year-old Deal resident.
Despite life saving measures initiated by first responders, the pedestrian sustained a traumatic injury, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Howell Township Police Department, the Monmouth County Prosecutors Office and the Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team
(SCART).
The driver did not sustain any injuries as a result of the crash. The driver remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
No summonses have been issued at this time.
Route 9 south in Howell is shut from Lanes Mill Road for the investigation. Traffic from Rt. 9 is being diverted to Kent Road.
