twp meetingA man unhappy with his sentence lunged at the Lakewood judge in court today, TLS has learned.

The incident began during the morning municipal court session‎ when a 25 year old man was sentenced by Judge Basin to 81 days in prison for unpaid fines, police say.

That’s when the enraged man left the stand and ran towards the judge apparently attempting to assault him, police say. Basin was not harmed, police say.

The man was immediately tackled by the court police officer, with the assistance of another present police officer.

He was taken into custody, and charges are pending, police say.

  1. An 81-day sentence set him off like that, Huh ? The truth is court sessions can be infuriating. Especially when the working or in-school defendants in court have to wait till the court does the cases of ppl in jail BEFORE the free people. Thats NUTS !! They’re not in a rush – they’re not going anywhere for 81 days. We ARE in a rush.

  2. I agree w/ #1. On the , B”H , rare occassion I have to be in court, I always wondered why the judge goes to the 2-way TV and tries the guys in jail before the guys in the courtroom. Either way, you do NOT, under any circumstances, attack the judge. I’ve nothing further, your honor.

  3. They deal with the prisoners first because they want to keep a certain schedule in the jail. Its not in the offenders best interest but in the courts & jails!
