What precisely is an “assault rifle”?

Assault rifle has become a political term that can mean whatever you want it to mean. It used to refer to fully automatic weapons that are used by the army (like an M4) and are not legal for civilians.
Thanks to liberals, it has informally come to include any semi automatic rifle.
In this case the police called it an AR-15, but that also has become a catch-all term for any high powered rifle, so who knows.

Hey Moe, thanks. It seems to be a common error these days… where people seem to mistranslate the “AR” in AR-15 to “assault rifle” instead of Armalite.
