A man trying to hide drugs on himself was arrested after trying to walk away from a traffic stop, police say.
On October 24th at approximately 10pm, Officers Edgardo Vega and Michael Young observed the operator of a black BMW driving carelessly on Martin Luther King Drive.
As the Officers were trying to catch up to the vehicle, the driver failed to come to a complete stop at the intersection of Emmanuel Drive and Warren Street.
Upon initiating a motor vehicle stop, the BMW quickly pulled over and one of the occupants, 21 year old Fernando Reyes of Lakewood, exited the vehicle and attempted to walk away.
As Officer Vega ordered Reyes to stop, he observed him trying to retrieve or conceal something near his waistband. Further investigation resulted in the recovery of 345 wax folds of heroin and approximately $3,500 in cash.
Fernando Reyes was arrested and charged with Possession of Heroin and Possession with the Intent to Distribute Heroin. Bail was set at $7,500 no 10%.
The driver of the car, 19 year old Anthony Moncada also of Lakewood, was also arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License. He was later release after receiving several motor vehicle violations as well.
why does someone with drugs get bail for 7500.00 seems very low also if operating a car with a suspended license don’t you usually get arrested … curious ..
So guy does MEDICAID fraud and he gets 75k no ten percent bail but a drug dealer with 345 hits of heroin in him and 3500 in cash gets $7500 bail ? He could have almost paid it with money in his pocket
To route 70 first they confiscate the money then they make him post bail. So he couldn’t pay with the money in his pocket.
To Sammy
They don’t arrest you on a first offense. They just give a ticket for driving while suspended.
