Makeover of Rt. 70, New Hampshire and Chestnut Intersections Nears Completion [PHOTOS]

The intersections of New Hampshire Avenue and Chestnut Street, as well as New Hampshire Avenue and Rt. 70, have been the scenes of dozens of accidents over the years.

Dozens of readers have reached out to TLS inquiring from the Mayor as to a time frame for completion.

TLS reached out to the Mayor for information.

“I have received several questions regarding the completion of the work being done at New Hampshire & Chestnut. I reached out to the county today & received this response a little while ago,” Mayor Coles stated.

“Mayor,

The latest I have is it will be complete we are looking at mid-September, the only issue that may delay is we need to coordinate activation of the signal equipment with NJDOT since they will own the new signal at Chestnut/Lisa Robin Court (driveway to condos). It looks like the completion is just a few weeks away.”

  1. Although i really appreciate the recent improvements on many streets for example Prospect/Massachusetts, Countyline/Brook, Seeing is believing and talk is cheap, look at 70/Vermont ave was supposed to be done years ago so as we all know by now, IT’S NOT DONE UNTIL IT’S DONE!

  2. Why are ppl always complaining!
99 percent of the questions to the mayor is road work related. When are u doing light, when are u doing, turning lanes, bla bla bla, wa wa wa traffic sucks, we need 2 lanes, we need stop signs….

    My gosh!

Now they are finally doing serious changes, and it takes time, but of course everyone is still complaining it’s reliant too long! Work at night! Ur in my way! Bla bla bla wa wa wa!

  3. That area will have more accidents then it had before. Too many turns to go from New Hampshire going north to get to Chestnut. Was left turn onto Chestnut. Now it will be right into jughandle, ATTEMPT to merge on to 70, cross over New Hampshire, then turn right on to new road to Chestnut. Coming out of the jughandle will be trying- cars on 70, cars on right turn lane to go north on New Hampshire, cars on right turn lane to turn on to the new road.
