The vast majority of New Jersey residents overwhelmingly support required education about climate change, with 70% of residents favoring it, and concerns that it might upset children having no impact on their views, according to a new Fairleigh Dickinson University poll released this morning.
In 2021, New Jersey became the first state in the union to require public schools to teach students about climate change, as early as kindergarten, and throughout their classes, even in physical education.
When the curricular requirement was introduced, there were concerns about uneven funding for the mandate; today, objections more frequently come in the name of climate anxiety (also called eco-anxiety), a feeling of distress and helplessness that can arise from awareness of the dire state of climate change.
To see whether concerns about climate anxiety changed how Jersey residents view the issue, an experiment was embedded in the survey.
Half of respondents were asked whether they approved of teaching children about climate change, and told that some people oppose it; the other half were told that there were concerns that it could upset children.
However, there was not a statistically significant difference in responses between the two groups, indicating that bringing up climate anxiety doesn’t change how people feel about the instruction.
Broken down by party, registered Democrats were more likely than other partisan groups to approve of the climate change curriculum mandate, with 96% saying that the instruction should be required.
However, somewhat surprisingly is the extent to which independents and Republicans support it: 65% of independents say that schools should teach about climate change, with only 34% saying they were opposed.
Republicans are evenly split on the issue, with 45% supporting, and 45% opposing.

its such a hoax – It is very hard to say you don’t believe in cleaning up the climate- you feel like a jerk – but there is no reasonable plan -it is all a corrupt farce and distraction from the real issues- sure worry about the weather in 50 years and blithely say killing full term babies is a woman’s choice – Hopefully G-d will help us come to our senses because we have a continuous stream of less than brilliant people doing this, and as we lose our plastic bags, our gas stoves, our washing machines, straws, and affordable vehicles and most of all honest leaders – we watch our world go crazy -with insane pronouns- trying to be sensitive to a handful of people and ignoring the job of raising well educated people with basic morals and the Golden Rule- not to mention the whales dying on shore, the pigeons and who knows what else get stuck on windmills, and China and American elitists raking in billions at our expense and discomfort – Just Pray Everybody – this is very unfortunate – so many people are depressed about it that we have an incredible influx of suicidal drug and alcohol abusers because they are not taught the basic principles of living according to the Ten Commandments – Everybody has to do their share
The righties want us to believe that G-d controls the climate (true) and that nothing we do has a negative impact on it (untrue). And all they care about is $$$.
Ok I’ll agree to it if they stop spraying our skies & take data after that for 5-10 yrs by a 3rd party not paid off. This is (moderated). Actually the temps are higher than the lowest temp ever it’s the actual data they are keeping you from.
The proof it is not an true look at all the biggest pushers of the agenda they all have beach front homes. If the water starts rising which homes will disappear first? Right if they’d b bidding property in the highest places I’d maybe think about believing them. Oh & all of them fly private jets& emit more fuel than a schoolclass & their family
I believe we should do everything we can to protect our environment from destructive human interference, including the effects that fossil fuel usage has on our climate. I don’t own a beach front home and I don’t fly a private jet.
