Major Road Closure Set to Begin July 8 in Jackson Township; 45-60 Day Project to Impact Area Traffic

Jackson Township officials have issued a traffic advisory ahead of a major road closure scheduled to begin Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at approximately 7:00 a.m. Cedar Swamp Road will be fully closed to thru-traffic between the intersection of West Veterans Highway/Bennetts Mills Road and East and West Commodore Boulevard.

The closure is part of a long-term infrastructure project that includes intersection realignment, road widening, and other roadway improvements. The project is expected to last between 45 and 60 days and will be in effect 24 hours a day until completion.

While the road will be closed to thru-traffic, local residents and businesses along Cedar Swamp Road will still be able to access their properties. However, drivers should prepare for multiple detours and significant travel delays.

Road Closure and Detour Details:
• Cedar Swamp Road:
• Local access only will be permitted.
• Residents living between Fish Road and the West Veterans/Bennetts Mills intersection must enter from that intersection.
• Residents and businesses located between Christian Way and Commodore Blvd. must use the Commodore Blvd. entrance. This includes Glory’s Liquors, which will only be accessible from Commodore Blvd.
• Jackson Mills Road:
• Will be closed at Frank Applegate Road.
• Heathwood Road residents will still be able to access their street.
• Trucks over 4 tons or non-local deliveries heading west will be detoured to East Commodore Blvd.
• Freehold Road:
• Will be closed at Leesville Road.
• Access will remain open up to Mallard Court for local residents.

Police Presence and Travel Tips:

Jackson Township Police Officers will be stationed at key closure points during the initial phase to assist motorists and answer questions. Officials urge drivers to plan alternate routes, allow extra travel time, and closely follow detour signage.

“This project is necessary to improve traffic flow and safety in a critical area of the township,” officials said in a statement. “We appreciate the public’s cooperation and patience during this extended construction period.”

Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and around detour zones and to remain alert for construction crews and changing traffic patterns.

Would it be easier to show people on a map exactly what is closed. Some people may not understand your directions on what’s closed unless they actually see it a map
