LSTA: Busing to resume Monday; Here’s how you can help the bus drivers

Busing is slated to resume tomorrow, Monday, says the LSTA, and here’s how you can help make it go smoothly.

“Please help the vendors and take in all garbage bins,” says Rabbi Krawiec. “And when parking, please remember buses have to be able to pass through the already-narrowed roads due to snow piles. Today’s private runs had difficulties pulling into some developments due to garbage bins and cars parked in the roadways. The vendors will do the best they can in the morning, but let’s do what we can to assist them in getting our children to school safely.”

  1. This would be a fantastic help for the drivers.

And perhaps more importantly, since the roads may still be slippery with ice and/or slush, perhaps we can trust the bus drivers will actually come to a full stop when they approach a stops sign, just like the professional bus companies do in the rest of New Jersey.

I hope you dont censor this important and genuine safety concern.

  2. My serious concern-
Where are the children standing while waiting for their buses? If everybody would shovel their walkways, especially sidewalks on corners, students could safely wait for their transport to school. Right now in many places around town the only option is to wait on the street, as there is no where else for anyone stand besides on top of a mountain of snow (which is in and of itself dangerous!). I pray that every single child gets to school safely!

  3. I just want to not: I tried walking today basic streets, such as Clifton and even Madison Ave. Never mind a stroller is impossible. but there is no way that a person can walk on the sidewalks on any full block. This is ridiculous, Although most people do drive in Lakewood, it is unfair that you can not get to a supermarket by walking. In fact on Clifton there were many cars parked, so you literally have to walk alongside with the cars. WHO IS REPONSINBLE??????

  4. Honestly, while these comments and displays of concern are validated – this is the consequence of a township overwhelmed by Houses, People & cars! Like we always say, it’s only a complaint when it affects yourself.

And in reference to buses coming to a full stop – perhaps many are oblivious to the unfortunate and highly disregarded existence of Bus drivers not even waiting till Children get into their seat (properly) before a bus takes off out of pressure to maneuver through frequently anticipated traffic. Where’s all of your safety concerns there or is it just about the “now and when” that counts but not on overall negligence?!

  5. I’m not sure why it’s not a law in Lakewood that each homeowner is responsible to make sure that the walkway in front of their house is shoveled. How is my eight-year-old supposed to walk from the corner to the house on a very busy/dangerous street- Forced to walk in middle of the street as most neighbors did not shovel their walkway. In addition street corners are so piled up with snow where are they supposed to wait if that is where their bus stop is? Hashem should watch over all our children to go/come home from school safely!
