LPD to Hire 2 New Full-Time Police Officers

The Lakewood Police Department will soon be hiring two new full-time Police Officers to replace the ones retiring in the coming weeks and months, the Mayor confirmed to TLS.

Police Chief Rob Lawson tells TLS the new officers will most likely be lateral transfers – thereby saving the Township on training time, as the officers only require in-house training before hitting the roads.

The new officers will be hired from funds allocated in last year’s budget, the Mayor said.

In the coming months, several senior officers will be retiring from the force, bringing the number of officers to approximately 115. [TLS]

Why does the department only want to hire lateral transfers????? Why take another towns disgruntled ex employees when we can hire new fresh blood and people who grew up in this town. This stinks like old herring. Getting someone out on the street fast, paying twice as much as a new candidate and having problems with them is not what this town needs.

Where do you get your information from Fishy? These officers have been trained and experienced. Why do you call them disgruntled, how did you determine that? These officers have been laid off from other towns for budget reasons.

Wow, that’s just spectacular! Two new officers should do the trick. 115 officers… that sure doesn’t sound like a lot considering Lakewood is one of the most populated towns in New Jersey. And that 115, how many are actually on the street, answering calls? It can’t be too many. They must pay out a ton in overtime?

Fishy is correct. They are not laid off officers, but in fact are officers who want to leave the department they work for and transfer to Lakewood. They should hire off the list as that list is made up of actual residents of Lakewood.

There is no list because no one is taking the state test.

fishy knows what he’s atalking about. When an officer misbehaves in their district they are usualy transferd elsewhere. What do you think happened to (moderated) and (moderated) from lakewood? They were sent to a different town.

None of you know what you are talking about!!! Sometimes officers work for a department where there is no room for growth or advancement so why stay there. I’m sure they wouldn’t hire someone who was a problem somewhere else. Just maybe these transfers are looking to make more money and improve themselves. Oh and I believe it says right at the top it is way more inexpensive to hire transfers because they have already been trained. NO ACADEMY NECCESSARY!!! The police academy cost money. New hires would not be on the road for at least a year. 115 officers is no where near enough for Lakewood, there are probably about 70 or so officers on the road and who knows how many of them are actually on the road due to injuries and such. Not everyone that takes the civil service test for Lakewood are from Lakewood. There are plenty of guys that work here that are not from here. You only have to live in Lakewood at the time of the test and at the time of hire.

What are you talking about there is no list? There is a huge list with numerous people waiting on it.

no lakewood officers were ever sent to another town. Towns don’t transfer officers between towns to get a better breed of officers. All the officers in lakewood are still there. There have been no transfers out of this town. We cant afford to lose any of them with all the crime and drama we have here.

How do I apply to be a police officer and do I need to shave my locks?

Just to shed some light on the Lakewood police force . The FBI says that the department should have 2 officers per thousand people or about 210 officers. Violent crime and crimes against property are on the rise. At some point in time just about every reader will either be a victim or know a victim if you continue to allow the Township leaders to run the police department into the ground. Just 5 years ago the department had over 130 officers. Retirements and officer killed in the line of duty have gone unfilled in an attempt to keep taxes down . Well taxes haven’t gone down because of wasteful spending .

If you hire laterals you pay them wayyy more than new hires. The academy only cost $500 dollars for each officer!!! Not alot!!!
