A cyclist riding his bicycle in Lakewood was beaten and robbed after being chased down by his assailants, police say.
At approximately 2:45 AM on Wednesday, Officer Patrick Kearns was dispatched to an East 4th Street home after receiving a call of a man screaming.
Upon arrival, he located a man who was visibly upset and had appeared to have just been in some kind of physical altercation, detective Sergeant Greg Staffordsmith says.
“It was quickly leaned that the man, who only spoke Spanish was the victim of a robbery,” Staffordsmith said.
Officer Michael Delvalle was able to determine that the 43 old victim was riding his bicycle when a light gray 4 door sedan drove up to him and stopped. The victim, who was nervous, dropped his bike and began to flee on foot. Two of the occupants exited the vehicle and gave chase and caught him a few houses away.
“The suspects, then began beating him,” Staffordsmith says. While trying to remove his wallet the assailants also ripped his pants pocket.
After gaining possessing of his wallet the suspects ran back to their car and fled the area.
A short time later, Officer Michael Dennis Jr., observed a vehicle matching that of the suspects in the Exxon parking lot located on Route 70.
A motor vehicle stop was conducted and located inside were 35 yr old Vincent Vannell, 53 yr old William McGrady Jr. and 25 yr old Dynicea Whitaker all of Lakewood.
After further investigation by Det. Michael Cavallo and Officer Michael Mooney Jr., all three were charged with Robbery. Bail was set at $50,000 no 10% and the three were transported to the Ocean County Jail.
